Chimps speak universal language of laughter

Humans and chimps have another thing in common other than a shared
ancestor and genes - they both learn to smile and laugh at a very early
age.
A study of baby chimps has found that they smile readily at human
handlers within a month of birth and laugh out loud when tickled, just
like human babies.

"She said a happy chimp "smile" was distinctly different from an unhappy grimace.
"Their mouth is open, and when you tickle them, they laugh. If they grimace and
you try to tickle them they might bite you."
How in hell does she know that the chimp is "happy"?

How would we know if Glenn was happy? Pretending that Glenn's
response is healthy skepticism to avoid anthropomorphism, happy might
not be the right word. But they do respond similar to humans under many
circumstances. Try to tickle Glenn right now and he might respond
aggressively. Dr. Dolittle would find Cheeta quoting Shylock.
