Weekends in Beijing reveal sharp differences between tourists and
residents of the sprawling Chinese capital. On Saturdays and Sundays,
Beijing's most famous sights -- the Summer Palace, the Temple of
Heaven, Tiananmen Square -- are crawling with visitors, making even
Disney World at high season seem serene. Beijingers, meanwhile, flock
to the flashy new shopping malls just east of Tiananmen, full of
latte-swilling yuppies jabbering on mobile phones, and massive
supermarkets offering everything from Parmalat milk to Peking duck.

The crazy kind. Unless you think trying to convert a lion to
Christianity is somehow sane.

The most dangerous kind.
It took the West 2000 years to work out the relationship between
Church and State. A China full of evangelic Christians is a threat to
all Chinese and to the human kind.
Some people cited the recent treaty between Iran and the PRC as a
harbinger of Amaggedan. But giving the secularization trend in the
West, evangelical Chinese leaders might mean Amaggedan Christian China
against secular West. Imagine Chinese manpower plus American military
gadgets.

The most dangerous kind.

It took the West 2000 years to work out the relationship between
Church and State. A China full of evangelic Christians is a threat to
all Chinese and to the human kind.

Definitely a good point.
Look at the mess that most African countries are in. Now, granted, the
factors that went into those collapsed economies, wars, and starvation
are complex, but Christianity is certainly a factor in keeping things
that way and making them worse. Case in point, the African AIDS
epidemic. Local leaders have made the situation worse by refusing to
embark on public health measures that would reduce the spread of the
disease. Rather, they proclaim loudly that it's a "gay disease" (not
true, especially in Africa), that Christians aren't gay (in fact, in
many African countries, male homosexuality is outlawed), and
therefore, there is no problem.
Christianity (and Islam) have also acted to encourage and amplify
native patterns of superstition. Instead of bringing the light and
reason of the scientific age to Africa, the West has only brought more
darkness, in the form of a book which speaks of witches, miracles,
trials by ordeal, prophets, and sacrifices to jealous gods. A woman
was persecuted for alleged witchcraft in modern times in Africa (IIRC,
Nigeria), even though there was no proof that any crime had been
commited at all, by eldritch means or not. (Men were claiming that a
witch had shrunken their penises, though in fact such organs were
still intact. The words of Monty Python seem almost prophetic: "She
turned me into a newt!" (Pause.) "I got better.")
Another example--the continued suppression of women. In many East
African societies before European invasion men and women had separate
economies because various tasks, like herding, pottery making, textile
making, and so on, were assigned strictly to one gender or the other.
When the British came, they suppressed the women's economies and
taught that women were inferior creatures in their schools. Armed with
Holy Bibles, African men continue the oppression of half of their
population.
It's shameful and disgusting, and Christianity, that "sublimest of
superstitions" is right at the heart of the brutality and suffering.
When Europe fell to the Christian meme, there came a thousand years of
darkness.
