Completely unnecessary. China can close its ports at this point and achieve
even more damage to the USA than through using nuclear weapons. We'll know
when the Chinese believe that the time has come to take back Taiwan,
because that will be when the USA has no other option but to concede. At
that point, they might as well ask for Alaska, Hawaii, and California too
while they're at it. The coming conflict with China has already been fought
and we've lost it.

Yes, we really are hosed. That general is an idiot. If the
Chinese nuke us, I'm sure we'll instantly and massively
retaliate. Beijing will be a smoking hole in the ground, and
I'm not sure that the Chinese have the ballistic missile
capability to hit Washington yet. If they merely call the
various notes they hold, WTF are we going to do?

Hmm. Mildly embarrassing. I really haven't been keeping up.
I seem to be at least 20 years out of date. They now have
around 20 DF5 or DF5A missiles which could reach the eastern
US, with a couple more modern mobile long-range missile
designs to be deployed shortly, if they haven't been
already. Overall numbers are quite small, as compared to the
US, but given that missile defense is a sham, how many ICBMs
do you actually need? Of course, I had to go look all this
up myself, as your links were only tangentially relevant.

Almost a catch-22, if it weren't to China's detrement.
Ask yourself, "why does China invest it's money with such a supposedly
hated enemy?"
Answer: because the U.S. has a stable garanteed currency, and they
choose to put their money where it's safe. Not too safe if their nuking
us though.
They can't just cash-in all the notes they hold in one transaction,
it's not like closing your account with a bank.

But honestly, all this talk about China invading Taiwan is really a
waste of time. Ain't gonna' happen no matter what some Chinese general
