The ex-boyfriend of a friend of mine killed a woman. The pastor of an "evangelical"
church she later got involved with told her that the boyfriend committed the murder
because the "Spirit of Murder" had passed from her to him. This "Spirit of Murder" had
come into existence when, before she was born, her mother had had an abortion.
I once met a young couple who were members of an evangelical church. They had an
infant daughter. Her mother pointed at her and angrily declared that she was
"possessed by Satan" and that it was up to them to drive Satan out. The father, with a
smile on his face, made it plain to me that this "driving out of Satan" involved using
physical violence on the confused and distressed child.

The worst side of superstition and not uncommon.
We are dealing here with the human mind, a mind that over time has been grossly distorted
by the evolutionary process, unlike the giraffe, who does not suffer from his grossly
long neck, a good many humans have sick brains.
It is something we have to live with. We may well destroy ourselves before the
evolutionary process does the job naturally.
Then this planet will be left to the animals. It will be a saner, and of course, no
longer will there be any gods, or pollution for that matter!.
And if we destroy ourselves, could it be in the name of our imaginary gods?
You bet it could.
