UN Agency Regrets as 'Disheartening' US Withholding of Funds over
Abortion
UN News Center
Friday 16 September 2005
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said today the United
States' decision to withhold $34 million for purported
abortion-related reasons was especially regrettable when leaders at
the World Summit now meeting at UN Headquarters in New York were
stressing the need to act together on global concerns.
"The funds are urgently needed for effective multilateral work in
developing countries to prevent maternal and child deaths, stop the
spread of HIV/AIDS, provide voluntary contraception and to support the
work to end poverty," UNFPA said noting that the withheld money could
prevent as many as 2 million unwanted pregnancies and 4,700 maternal
deaths in developing countries.
The United States is the only country to ever deny funding to
UNFPA for non-budgetary reasons in the agency's entire 36 years of
operation.
The Administration's stated reason for withholding funds
appropriated by Congress for the fourth straight year is simply
incorrect, as an assessment team sent to China by the Administration
itself found no evidence that UNFPA supports coercive abortions or
sterilization, the Fund stressed.
To the contrary, the team reported that UNFPA had registered its
strong opposition to such practices. Other independent teams, from the
British Parliament and a multi-faith panel of religious leaders,
reached the same conclusion, some adding that UNFPA was a force for
good, promoting positive change.
"This decision is disheartening because it contradicts clear
evidence that UNFPA works hard to end coercion by proving the efficacy
and superiority of the voluntary approach to family planning over any
other alternative," Thoraya Ahmed Obaid, UNFPA's Executive Director
said.
"I hope the United States will rejoin the family of nations that
support our multilateral work to eliminate maternal deaths, prevent
HIV/AIDS, empower women and reduce poverty," she added. "Our task is
made more urgent by the fact that more than 300 million poor women in
the world suffer from short- and long-term illnesses related to
pregnancy or childbirth, with more than half a million of them dying
each year."
The current Administration has so far withheld $127 million in
funds appropriated by Congress. Apart from preventing as many as 2
million unwanted pregnancies and 4,700 maternal deaths in developing
countries, one year's withheld funding of $34 million could also be
used to scale up promising maternal health and HIV-prevention efforts,
as well as to treat young women suffering from obstetric fistula.

That sicko gloating about be a "war president."
What's worse is that the Christian looked at his rapes, murders,
and tortures -- the photographs -- and tried to pretend it was
just "pranks."
Is that what Christianity teaches its baby killers these days?

You militant atheists pretty much all work from the same script.
Although viewing yourselves as "free thinkers", you all have a Party Line
you follow rather closely.
It isn't difficult to anticipate your arguments on any
given point. Most intelligent religious individuals almost always can
correctly predict what
you'll say next.Interestingly, militant atheists get much of their beliefs
about "Christianity" from liberal Christians.
They'll pejoratively label all Christians as "Fundies",
then presumptively attack liberal theological concepts
they suppose us "Fundies" subscribe to !
Nearly all militant atheists are followers of the
religion of Scientism. Their priests wear white lab
coats. Their sacramental objects are the microscope,
the telescope, and the test tube. Blasphemy is to
deny the ultimate authority of science.
But the militant atheists -the ones who have devoted
their lives to refuting Christianity- are almost like the
demons ...who believe more firmly in God's existence
than do Christians !
It can unequivocally be stated that militant atheists are some
of the people who most solidly believe in God !
Ain't talking 'practical atheists' here ...those who don't
even think much about atheism. They're the true
atheists.
Professional atheists who've dedicated themselves
to eradicating the Lord do so because they hate Him.
They're the God-haters.
To which they'll invariably reply: 'How can we hate
something we don't believe in ?'.
Exactly ! It's their belief in God which drives them to
relentlessly attack Him.
Run of the mill, everyday 'practical atheists' don't
give God a second thought. They're the ones
I worry about.
Whereas militant atheists are fighting against the
innate knowledge of suppressed in their hearts.
As a militant atheist I can unequivocally state that there is no time in
your life that you
totally disbelieved in God. And -in fact- were driven to
work against the Lord by belief in Him !
It isn't that militant atheists don't believe God exists.
Instead: That they don't want God to exist.

There is a point to this: how can you and why would you hate and persecute
followers of the One who never existed? Do you persecute those who say
Elvis is alive? -- No! So, logic says there is something in Christianity
more than a fairy tale.
Poor have miserable lives according to our, Western standards, when we have
to have a SUV, house, weekend house, mistress and $100,000 salary to feel
successful. We would deny those who would live on $0.50 a day right to be
even born!
OTOH, Jesus considers life a success if it is followed by salvation and
eternal life. Like Lazarus was in the end more successful than the rich
man. So, one time I have to agree with Bush: poor have the right to be
born, no one has the right for Nazi/like sterilization of the poor women
so they would have less poor children.
Neither to force them to use contraception or be coerced to abortion.
Bush said he is against abortions, so I suppose even he is against coerced
ones, so he cannot be accused for deaths other govts cause by their own
free will, and for not choosing to remedy evil with other injustice that is
against his beliefs just as the first one.

So when Christians hated and persecuted Jews, Moslems,
Bhuddists, African Animists and members of other religions,
were they proving that there was "something in" those
other religions "more than a fairy tale"? Your argument
shoots itself in the foot, if you're trying to use it
to peddle your religion as the One True Way.

You certainly have a point there. This is the difference between true
Christians from catacombs and the formal hypocritic Christians most of
people are today and ever since Christianity stopped being persecuted
and became a dominant view of the world as state religion around 325 AD.
If you support death penalty and war on Iraq as a "Christian",
and live according to consumer society values, no one will persecute you
for sure.
Jesus OTOH said clearly to pur away the sword, for all who live
by sword shall die from it.
Today persecution is mostly in form of peer pressure, but also
sometimes very concrete and real on psychiatric wards with atheist
psychiatrists and staff, and all other situations when atheists
have power to decide life and death of true Christians (i.e. army).
Ever since holiday Christianity took majority we cannot see Christ
in them.
You will better understand my view if I tell you that Christianizing
entire nations into "Christian nations" is a nonsense per se,
because Jesus says clearly that "majority takes the wide road that
leads to destruction". There is no such thing as preached by Catholic
priests on funerals how everybody is going to Heavenly mansions.
Salvation is personal, and saved are the few.
We have a situation throughout the history that acutally few people
change the religion of their parents and most of them die in the
religion in which they are born. It would be unrighteous that
all Americans are going to Heaven, and all Arabs to Hell, wouldn't it?
As born agains are preaching - that only by prayer of salvation in
their church one becomes saved.
So, it is complex and God's paths are strange. The truth is we do
not know who is saved and who is not.
But if you try to live according to message of Christ without a
compromise, I can assure you that you will experience opposition
or at least mockery.
Being a mainstream Christian without "salt" OTOH is far too easy to be
also profitable.
