NEW HAVEN --
A former powerhouse fund-raiser for the Republican party and the
Catholic church pleaded guilty yesterday to taking part in financier
Martin Frankel's scheme to loot insurance companies in five states.
Thomas Bolan, 80, a lawyer of New York City, introduced Frankel to
high-ranking church officials and helped him run a phony Roman
Catholic foundation used to hide the plot.
He faces up to three years in prison.

Why is it almost always Republicans doing this? Even with the media in
the USA being 99% right-wing, these reports about criminal Republicans
still seem very numerous. Or are Democrats just far too much smarter
than Republicans and therefore do not get caught?

Because the extremist Christian right-wingers who are naturally attracted to
the supremacist ideologies that the GOP espouses today are fundamentally
opposed to the principles of the rule-of-law. When required to make a choice
between what they perceive as God's law and man's law, they choose God's law
every time. If that means they can steal, they steal. If that means that they
can torture, they torture. If that means they can kill, they kill. God will
always forgive them, so they never truly feel that they are ultimately
responsible for their conduct, nor are they under the authority of the law.
