Secondly, he is from California one if not the least *Christian*

But making guns illegal only disarms law-abiding citizens, not
criminals. Moreover, then the law-abiding citizens would be totally
without protection from those still-armed criminals. Finally, since
the bad guys have guns, it requires good guys with guns to stop them --
good guys with only tuna fish sandwiches or Legos will not get the job
done.
The bottom line for me is simple: We all have a right (and even an
obligation, at least for us parents) to defend ourselves and our loved
ones. That's one of those inalienable rights like life, liberty and
pursuit of happiness (doesn't matter where they come from, pick your
unprovable and irrelevant origin of choice, what matters is that we
recognize them). That right is reflected in our constitution. There
is a mechanism to change the constitution if you disagree with it. You
play be the rules, and so will I, and together we'll punish those who
do not as required.

Japan allows target shooting - you just can't take the gun with you when you
leave the shooting club.

things, and still more who only use them to hunt legally. I don't know

Guns are designed for one purpose: to kill. They shoot projectiles that
are
designed to enter the body and cause massive trauma, leading to death.
Oh, *****. A target pistol is designed to punch holes in
paper.
Why are there target pistols in the first place?
Because people like to compete with each other. They are
fairly unlike the guns you would buy to shoot people with,
and you should always do most of your practice with the
piece you will actually be shooting, if you hope to do your
best work with it.
So why not leave the guns at the shooting range in their armory? Taken
out for shooting and put back, or carried between matches in a locked
box in your car and checked back into the armory after?

If a law-abiding citizen does these things, how does it keep guns out
of the hands of criminals? You are being silly.
