Christian Debt Removal, Christian Mortgage |
Lately I've been getting this spam about Christian Debt Removal and
Christian Mortgages. I don't know what's in it, because stuff like that goes
unopened to my Deleted Items folder, but I wonder if anyone else knows that
these are about. Is it really some kind of Christian thing, or is it just
some kind of fraud playing to Christian sympathies?

Some of it, I believe, can be attributed to heartfelt and sincere Christians
who feel their time has come and feel that they can take advantage of the
rise in the popularity of their faith from a business point of view. Let's
face it, it's "cool" to be a right-wing Christian right now. The majority of
that crap, however, is just what you describe: "a fraud playing to Christian
sympathies." A lot of unscrupulous merchants are trying to cash in on the
present right-wing evangelical craze without any regard for what these
people are truly all about. And I too noticed the increase of
Christian-this and Christian-that in my e-mails. I even find some of it to
be downright funny. (I especially like the Christian Dating Service ones.
Hmmm. I wonder what it would be like to date a "real" Christian woman. Ahhh
heck, It *might* work out - provided she's a Green Bay Packer fan!

Hard to say, but I get tons of these emails, even after emailing them and
specifically requesting that I be removed from their lists, but no, still
get them on a daily basis. A lot of "Christian Singles" spam as well.

Alas a request to remove is seldom seen as more than a confirmation
that the your email address is valid. And oddly enough, "Christian
Singles" websites are consistently the most popular kind of Christian
websites.
Makes you think, eh?

Can it be a coincidence that Jason recently recommended such services?

Of course not - They started coming in like gangbusters right around that

Don't email them back. All you do is confirm to them that you're a
live human at a real email address. Even if they /do/ take you off
the list for Christian mortgages, they're likely to /add/ you to
the list for non-Christian mortgages. You'll also get sold as a
confirmed email address to other spammers.
There are other ways to fight spam, but I've long since given up
on them; it's not worth it. My several layers of filters keep
things down to a half-dozen a day in my inbox, which I can
tolerate for now.
Cheers,
b&

Of course it's a genuine christian offer. I mean, what kind of
dangerous freak would seek to disassociate lending practices and
religious observation? Sheesh.

Good Afternoon,
Your anonymous correspondant is giving you bad advice.
After studying the 1995 film Rob Roy, I have come to the conclusion
that I must challenge my debt collection agency to a duel by means of
Royal Mail. I gather they are sending me their best man in seven days.
They are based in Glasgow, so will not be expecting things to be done
in the old Highland manner.
Yours, &c

In the great debate about "Christian Debt Removal, Christian Mortgage"
in alt.atheism, "Dale" <dmgreer@nspm.airmail.net> catapaulted the
following tautology:
Is it really some kind of Christian thing, or is it just
some kind of fraud playing to Christian sympathies?
Yes.
