Guilty verdict for man who killed wife because it would be a sin for
him to have an affair while she was alive
Lawrence, Kansas --A jury deliberated about six hours Monday before
finding a local carpenter and former Christian-school leader guilty of
strangling his wife.
The jury of six men and six women convicted Martin K. Miller, 46, of
first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Kansas University
librarian Mary E. Miller...
The case included testimony about Martin Miller’s four-year
extramarital affair, pornography addiction, and desire to pursue more
sexual relationships — all of which stood in contrast to his
leadership roles at his church and his children’s Christian school...
Prosecutor Jones said in his closing argument that divorce wasn’t an
option because Miller stood to lose his roles as a youth-group leader
at church and a board member for Veritas Christian School.
“Murder?... Of course he knew it was a sin,” Jones said. “But that was
supposed to be a private sin. No one was supposed to know about that
one.”

LAWRENCE MURDER CASE

LAWRENCE, KANSAS (June 21, 2005) - Lawrence, Kansas-based rock band
Trucker today released a new song about the recent murder trial of
Martin K. Miller, who was yesterday convicted of strangling his wife.
The Neighbor Song can be heard at the following website address:

Trucker singer/guitarist/composer Todd Johnson lives across the street
from the Millers, where the murder took place during the evening of
July 28, 2004. Miller, a local carpenter and one-time president of
Veritas Christian School, presented himself as a devout Christian.
During the trial, it was revealed that he had an S&M double-life
on-line and was carrying on an extramarital affair. His children, who
were in the house during the murder, testified that they heard their
mother fighting for her life as Miller strangled her to death.
Trucker was formed in 1995 by Todd Johnson of Olathe, Kansas and Thomas
Barletta of Canton, Connecticut. The band made its national television
debut in 2000 on USA Network's Farmclub, hosted by former MTV VJ Matt
Pinfield. Trucker has been awarded a B.E.A.M. Grant from Jim Beam as
an "up and coming Midwest Artist to watch," interviewed by Pat
Dinizio of the Smithereens, named one of the Top 50 unsigned bands in
America by the College Media Journal (CMJ) and the American Music
Awards (AMA) two years in a row, and selected by CMJ as a Regional
Semi-Finalist for the Nokia T-Mobile Opportunity Rocks Search for the
Next Great Band Competition. In 2003, Trucker Todd was one of only
three people in the nation selected by Rolling Stone to participate in
the David Fishof Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp. Trucker's most recent
CD is Nothing To See Here (2003).
The Neighbor Song was recorded in Lawrence at The Americana Music
Academy studios and produced by Americana Music Academy director Thom
Alexander. The song features Johnson on vocals and guitars and
Barletta on bass guitar and drums, along with additional musicians Thom
Alexander (mandolin, slide guitar) and Scott Richardson (piano).
