Lynchburg mayor re-indicted
WAVY-TV
LYNCHBURG, Va. Lynchburg Mayor Carl Hutcherson Junior was re-indicted on
seven felony counts this week.
The superseding indictment handed down by a federal grand jury in
Charlottesville on Wednesday is largely procedural. It allows federal
prosecutors to expand the time frame of what they say was Hutcherson's
obstruction of justice.
Hutcherson has pleaded NOT guilty to all charges, which include fraud
and lying to federal and bank officials.
Prosecutors say Hutcherson raided a church charity to pay his debts and
took money from Social Security recipients.
Hutcherson has stepped down temporarily as pastor of Trinity United
Methodist Church, but said he will remain in his post as mayor.
