1. "Christian rock" is an oxymoron.
2. The god in the Christians' bible, who they claim is the
highest being, has made people suffer through horrible things.

Back in the eighties, when I was quite the metalhead, a fellow soldier
convinced me to go see Stryper with him.
Not only were the lyrics insipid, but the band *sucked*. I was
actually laughing at some of the guitar solos. It was like a CYO
talent show where a bunch of kids who wanted to be Twisted Sister.
A few weeks later, I took him to a Judas Priest show. Now that's
*METAL*!

It's funny that Christian Southerners often say "Judas Priest!" instead
of "Jesus Christ!" when they express exasperation. I always wondered if
that expression came before or after the band.

Not always true. If you like Symphonic Prog, try Spock's Beard's "Snow".
It's a Prog-rock opera like "Tommy", but based on a kid preacher with

Not always true. If you like Symphonic Prog, try Spock's Beard's
"Snow". It's a Prog-rock opera like "Tommy", but based on a kid
preacher with divine powers. The story is BS, but the music is great.
"V" is their best work IMHO.
What did you think of Feel Euphoria? I think they did great without Neal
(he left due to being born again, I believe), a bit heavier than their
previous stuff, but good nonetheless.
"Octane" is out in January...according to the website, it's their "best
ever"...we shall see eh?
Nice to see another Beard fan.

Debatable, of course - it's a matter of preference. "V" was the first
album I bought, and it hit me like a ton of bricks. It took me a few
listens to get properly into "The Great Nothing", but I love long songs.
"Thoughts Part 2" had me smiling instantly!
"The Light" is up there - and out there too. I still like "Snow" the
best. You have to set aside a few hours to listen to the whole thing. I
took a solo bike trip up the California coast the day before
Thanksgiving, and loaded it up on my IPod. Yeah, baby.

Yeah, almost a move from symphonic to metal, but it's still the Beard. I
downloaded some of Neal's solo stuff. It's beardy, but kinda vanilla
compared to the mothership. I read his farewell message on their site.
Crap.
"Octane" is out in January...according to the website, it's their

Can't wait! I will buy that one - as I did with "V", "Snow" and "Feel
Euphoria". Gotta pay the piper.
Nice to see another Beard fan.
Likewise! What do you think of Porcupine Tree?

C'mon now, it's one thing to poke fun at my beltless pants, but my
flatulence, dizziness and tourettes too? Jeeze, will I ever get a break.

V was my first also. "At the end of the Day" was a theme song for a
while, but the rest is also golden. I have to admit that I never listened
to Snow all the way through in a sitting. I suppose that will be a
mission for me in the near future.

Crap indeed. Nick does a good job though.

There is a sample of some Octane on the web site. Sounds like they are
back to the symphonic stuff.

Um, er, uh...gimme a good start with them and I'll check the local record
shop for it...I've heard the name mentioned, but haven't heard any of
their stuff.

If you have a broadband account, give me a heads-up here, and I'll run over
and post it to alt.binaries.sounds.mp3.prog. I use the handle "vicman"
there. If you like it, then buy the CD. ;-)

Thanks!
