I remember those times. I thought it was just crazy to do that. I can
understand standing for the national anthem, which is just
fine...since it's truly patriotic. But chanting to an obviously
make-believe character who does absolutely nothing, and yet at the
same time allows or causes disasters to kill lots of people.......it's
ridiculous.

Going through a group 'jack-in-the-box' ritual has nothing to do with
patriotism. There are many who go through the ritual with one hand
while betraying with the other.
I was career military and would exit the base theatre lobby into the
theatre once the empty ritual was completed.
But chanting to an obviously

yeah....maybe. I guess they just want everybody to respect..or at
least, have the impression that everybody is kind of united to respect
and honour the country and people. But of course, there's always going
to be folks that don't care....but are still forced to stand and
endure the music and singing etc. I personally just stand and show my
respect...but as for the music and singing etc...I think that's kind
of overkill.

I know kind of what you mean, but I think they just do it for
something to show for it, even if some don't follow the same kind of
spirit... when I mean spirit...I mean like.... what we feel. Nothing
to do with ghost spirits and all that nonsense.

it.

Of course it is, by definition, assuming you are using definition 1a. of
"cult".
And 1b, 2, 3, 4, 5a, 5b, and 6.
cult: n.
1a. A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or
false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under
the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.
1b. The followers of such a religion or sect.
2. A system or community of religious worship and ritual.
3. The formal means of expressing religious reverence; religious
ceremony and ritual.
4. A usually nonscientific method or regimen claimed by its originator
to have exclusive or exceptional power in curing a particular disease.
5a. Obsessive, especially faddish, devotion to or veneration for a
person, principle, or thing.
5b. The object of such devotion.
6. An exclusive group of persons sharing an esoteric, usually artistic
or intellectual interest.

Whereas genuine Christianity is the actual knowledge of who God is (by way
of personal introduction) and it involves an ongoing relationship with Him.
You can't have an ongoing relationship with an impersonal or non-existent
God. Of course not all Christians have a very tight relationship with God
and some Christians end up in Christian-cults (seemingly Christian not
genuine) because their relationships with God are too distant. Some people
haven't the courage it takes to continue to grow in a closer relationship to
God. It isn't easy because He pulls you into growing away from your faults
and into greater wholeness. Most people haven't the courage to face their
faults and grow.

If you're going by hypocrisy and lies, then all xtians are 'true
xtians' since 'Jesus' set the standard.
If you go by what 'Jesus' says are signs of a christian then there
isn't a christian on the planet.
If you go by what christians prattle christianity is then there hasn't
been a christian on the planet since the fictional Jesus didn't
qualify either.

You can't have an ongoing relationship with an impersonal or non-existent
God. Of course not all Christians have a very tight relationship with God
and some Christians end up in Christian-cults (seemingly Christian not
genuine) because their relationships with God are too distant. Some people
haven't the courage it takes to continue to grow in a closer relationship
to
God. It isn't easy because He pulls you into growing away from your faults
and into greater wholeness. Most people haven't the courage to face their
faults and grow.
I keep asking Christians how they know what they've got a relationship with
is god, and I keep getting no answer. Just how does one go about identifying
a god? Photo ID? Do they compare it with a known god?
It must be pretty damn convincing, because people like georgann are
absolutely certain that they've correctly identified the supernatural entity
they think they have the relationship with. They believe they CANNOT be
wrong about it. They believe they CANNOT be fooled.
As far as I can tell, they're just guessing.

To be certain, you must claim omniscience regarding your ability to identify
gods. That's quite a claim.
Are you saying it's impossible for a supernatural being to fool you?

You don't know either, you just believe.
You could be following a devil, or simply the voices in your own head.
You have no way of knowing. No way of checking.

That's what schizophrenics say about the voices in their heads.
Don't you find it interesting that our courts won't accept "God told
me to do it," or "the devil told me to do it," as an excuse for
whatever the person did? Do you think this should be changed?
