Christians are terrorists? |
Christians are fond of quoting Islamic scriptures that sound radical,
but they forget how vicious their own scripture are:
19:27 But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign
over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.
It sounds to me like they are a bunch of crazy terrorists.

Literalists, definitely yes. To be fair, I have to point out not every
christian in the world is a braindead zombie.
Sadly, one tends to hear very little from the reasonable non-literalists.

Have you read Sam Harris's book _The End of Faith_? In it, he makes
the case that the "reasonable non-literalists" (he calls them
"moderate believers") are as much responsible for religious terrorism
as the hate-filled zealots, because they tacitly endorse the zealot's
core beliefs, i.e., that there's a god with a certain set of rules
that *must* be enforced.
If you haven't read the book yet, I recommend it. Scary, but a good
read.

I have had this oponion of the "moderates" since my teens.
And since then, that opinion has only been strengthened by the
demonstrated consequences of the moderates' shielding and passive
support for extremists, via pride in lying and irrationality amongst
many other charming attributes.
I think that Sam Harris is not strident enough about this point.

Yes, this is one of the more controversial conclusions in his book
because it paints all those moderate believers as "bad" theists both
because they don't follow the literal "word of God" and because they
give cover to those who do.
Harris really did hone in on the core problem, and it wasn't what many
expected. It completely refutes the argument that religious moderation
is a good thing. Moderate believers are directly responsible for the
rise of fundamentalist extremism, both here and around the world.
Daniel Dennett's argument about "believing in belief" offers another
perspective on the psychology of moderate believers.
If you haven't read the book yet, I recommend it. Scary, but a good

Absolutely. The End of Faith is one of the most important books of the
decade.

Unfortunately I have far too little opportunity to read anything that's not
online... :/
But yeah, I should devour that volume sometime ;)

I would also point out not all Muslims follow the radical line.

But again, they ALL enable and support the extremists, even if only
via passive acceptance, and of course the inherent child abuse of
indoctrinating children into thinking that ignorance is a virtue, and
lying is an even bigger virtue.
ALL of them, moderates and all.
They are all accessories to the crimes committed by their radicals and
"holy men".
