Christians issue gay warning on SpongeBob video
Conservative groups criticize maker's 'tolerance pledge'
Friday, January 21, 2005 Posted: 6:44 AM EST (1144 GMT)
LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Conservative Christian groups
accuse the makers of a video starring SpongeBob SquarePants, Barney
and a host of other cartoon characters of promoting homosexuality to
children.
The wacky square yellow SpongeBob is one of the stars of a music video
due to be sent to 61,000 U.S. schools in March. The makers -- the
nonprofit We Are Family Foundation -- say the video is designed to
encourage tolerance and diversity.
But at least two Christian activist groups say the innocent cartoon
characters are being exploited to promote the acceptance of
homosexuality.

We're not getting so much of the Spongebob controversy over here (thank

I especially liked Keith Olbermann's take on the "controversy". He
also has a copy of the video.

Though the revised "SpongeBob and Friends tape," which is to be
distributed to the schools, is not supposed to be released until
March, we've gotten a hold of the advanced copy from the "We Are
Family Foundation," which produced it. It is a foundation created by
the man who wrote the disco hit of 1979, "We Are Family." Below is the
whole thing, with the caveat that if the folks from Focus on the
Family are right, it could make you, your children or maybe your
furniture gay. Or tolerant.
By the way, not only did I not see any sexual identity in that, I
didn't even see very much of SpongeBob either. Although Winnie the
Pooh wasn't wearing pants.

I caught the broadcast. As a diabetic, I came close to needing an insulin
shot after seeing the video, it was so sugary. But of course, if something
doesn't mention Christ as being the one and only True Family (hmm... where
have I heard that phrase before?) then it amounts to persecution of
Christians, hatred of God and the promotion of homosexuality, feminism and
liberalism.

Which, in the eyes of the deprav^H^H^Hfundies, would be far worse.

Yes, how terrible, if they would be 'forced' to let people be
themselves and not face a life of prejudice and persecution because of
a medical problem.
Just imagine if gays were allowed to roam the streets freely... why,
they would no doubt prey on the children, and turn everybody gay gay
gay!
I think that's the scenario they're afraid of, since they seem to
think homosexuality is an evil devil psychological possession thing.

You are no better than the fundamentalists with your backhanded slap to
gays, saying they have a medical problem. I think you have a reality
problem.

I have seen some of the Spongebob cartoons poke fun at religion, but it
would take a far more advanced brain than a christer could posess to figure
it out.
