Christmas : Despair or Joy |
Its sad that retail Profiteers try so hard to entice people away from
the true meaning of this Christmas season. There are always things
competing for our allegiance ; it can be subtle things or it can be
blatant things . At the end of this Christmas season , there will be
one of two distinct feelings left with you :
1. You feel a void in your spirit that the season has come to an end
after the gift giving , eating, and getting together with friends/
family is over .
2. You feel a sense of joy, meaning, and purpose that you celebrated
the loving personal Creator of this universe who choose to enter time
and space to become one of us for a short time. It is this, that is
the true meaning, and if it stays with you, then 'you shall be free
indeed' (of the superficial things that our culture substitutes that
cannot fill the void deep inside the heart).
It is always our choice on which direction to go.
For the sincere open Seeker..take the time to learn the historical
evidence of why it is very reasonable to believe in Christ and who he
claimed to be .. and not the atheist propoganda that its just 'myth,
fairy tales, and hoopla' . If you are that sincere open Seeker,
please make your request in this thread and id be pleased to direct
you to a website that greatly details the unbiased historical
evidence in which ALL secular history is based on as well.
It can indeed be , a very Merry Christmas

Sorry, don't feel this either.
What I am left with is "Gee, that was fun, but I'm glad it's all over so I
can get back to doing important things and damn, this stupid tree's needles
are all over the place".
So a) you're wrong (how unsurprising); b) take your religion and shove it up
your *****; and c) Happy Holidays, jerkoff.

You... you... you tree killer!!!!
I don't actually like the practice of cutting them down and dragging them
in the house (fun as the whole decorating thing was when I was a kid and
I do love the smell of pine). I'd rather have one in the yard, growing.
Of course, the absolutely perfect one is growing *just* on the other side
of the fence line.

Believe me, it is NOT my idea. I'm on the verge of saying "FU" to the
husband and getting an artificial tree.

Me too <sigh> I really hate having "a dying corpse" in my living room. Not
to mention that I'm the only one that decorates and waters the damn thing -
as well as clean up all the needles later.

Yeah, that was me too, until I purposefully stopped doing it. The ex
insisted on having a "real" tree, and I put my foot down and said,
"Then you're going to water it, vacuum up the needles, and dispose of
it when the holiday is over."
Well, he didn't. So we sat with an extreme fire hazard in our house
for several weeks, until he learned that he *could not* out-stubborn
me. It's all in the follow-through, believe me.

of the year. It takes 4 minutes to carry it in, unbag it and plug it in.
No
needles, no fire hazard.........
But what if you want to change the look of the tree
from year to year?
Get new ornaments ;)
Besides, the cats like the live tree to much for me to
deny them this yearly treat. :)
Thankfully, my cat's not the least interested

Believe me, it is NOT my idea. I'm on the verge of saying "FU" to the
husband and getting an artificial tree.
Just get one. Fait acomplis or however the French spell it (for all the
French in my family line, I can't spell French derived words to save my
life).
I don't actually like the practice of cutting them down and dragging
them in the house (fun as the whole decorating thing was when I was a
kid and I do love the smell of pine). I'd rather have one in the yard,
growing.
Me too <sigh> I really hate having "a dying corpse" in my living room.
Not to mention that I'm the only one that decorates and waters the damn

Of course, the absolutely perfect one is growing *just* on the other
side of the fence line.
<grumble>
Bummer!
It's a *great* tree. And there's a perfect spot for it in my yard.
Now if I can just talk into walking over here...

What an *****!
No, they're kids. Very young. Too young to running around with anything
capable of hacking even a small tree. And considering where it was going
on, I doubt the parents knew.
I've talked to both parents before and said the same thing. I don't mind
the kids playing in that lot but it's probably not a good idea. Before I
bought it, it was being used as a dump of all things and I had a *****
load of trash (including two couches!) hauled out of it. But there's
still bits and pieces of rusty metal, broken glass, glass bottles. Short
of leveling the lot (and I ain't gonna), there's not much I can do about
that over the near term.
I'll put up with a lot of things out of kids. But *this*? No. I intend to
point out to the parents that clutter is one thing (there's toys over
there, meh), even some trash (kids, you know, popcicle wrappers and
stuff), but damage that doesn't stop right now will involve the Sheriff's
office.
They've actually been getting after their kids about being over there at
all. As I said, there's still bits of junk that could cause injury and
the mom is worried about snakes. And I do see their kids in their newly
cleared (they had a lotta work straightening out that lot let me tell
you) backyard more often than not these days.
But my lot runs right in front of their place and it's wooded. Lots of
little nooks and crannies from old trees and growth and I can see how
kids that young would find it hard to resist. In fact, the spot they've
been attracted to is shielded and rather "canopied" (perfect for being
outside in the summer sun).
In fact, the part they play in most times is pretty safe and clear. And I
don't mind. The potentially dangerous junk is mostly deeper in (the hicks
doing the dumping were "hiding" what they were doing as it is illegal as
all hell and this is Texas, people shoot at you for traipsing around in
the dark on their property... it's also legal to do so... <evil grin>).
Anyway.
They're just kids. Barely school age. And kids do stupid things sometimes.
I just intend for the parents to put the brakes on.
There is going to be a come-to-Jeebus meeting sometime this week with
certain parents...
Sounds like a plan.
I actually ran into the father yesterday morning before I found the tree.
I did (mildly this time) comment on the kids leaving candy wrappers and
such over there. He said he's going to march them over to clean up.
He should. It's right in front of *their* house. I don't have to look at
it all day, they do.
Keeping that lot decent is to their benefit too. The side that faces them
is quite pretty. Lots of Mimosas and little pines. And to be fair, they
are the first people in the lot behind me that have busted ***** this much
to clean that place up and make it decent. So I'm not ready to just go
off on them at this point. They're better neighbors than the last two
times. They're actually putting a hell of a lot of work into the place.
I still want their lot though. And they are renters. I want both lots
behind me. Both owned and rented out by the same person. If I get in a
position to make a serious offer, I'm afraid they're going to have to
move. That lot is slated to be my new backyard. <g>
(There's a second renter next to them who, if I ended up owning the land,
could stay until he dies far as I'm concerned. He's this kind that goes
to work, pays his rent like clockwork, and is so quiet, you hardly know
he's there. My only gripe is he's slow to cut his lawn and lets it run
riot. Still, there are worst things.)

What about free-range trees? ;-)
I actually have no problem with a cut tree from a tree
farm, because -- well, for the same reason I don't
feel bad about eating wheat: more can be grown.
My wife and I have gone the balled-and-burlap route a
few times over the years, and all those former
Christmas trees are doing well.
There are a few considerations, though, if you live in
north of the Mason-Dixon line:
* The final place for the tree must be selected
well ahead of time, because the hole must be dug
before the ground freezes. Cover the hole with
a piece of plywood or somesuch.
* It's helpful to keep the dirt from the hole
in a garage or shed, so that it will fall
into the hole -- rather than sitting in a
large, stubborn, icy lump -- when the time
comes to plant the tree.
* Before planting, give the tree a few weeks to
go dormant, by keeping it outside but near the
house on a side porch. If you take it from your
warm house and plant it in the frozen ground
right away, this is the equivalent of putting
a live tree in a deep freezer.
* Water well when planting, ice or no ice.
* Don't let your wife pick the planting
day. Mine has picked shivery, rainy days
each time, and each time the weather
immediately following was warmer and
clear. :)

Would that explain the things that go bump in the night?

Oh I know. I just don't like the *idea*. Used to when I was a kid but
these days think it's rather stupid to grow a tree so you can kill it and
throw it away. Also, being I'm actually an owner not a renter for the
first time (at my age no less), I'm kinda fond of my trees.
Which SOMEBODY'S parents are going to find out as it looks like some kids
have been playing "lumberjack" on one of my lots.
<fume>
My wife and I have gone the balled-and-burlap route a few times over the
years, and all those former Christmas trees are doing well.
I'd just assume plant one or two in the yard and if I get the impulse to
decorate, there they are. There are, actually, some spots in this lot
that could use a tree or two. Especially on the south facing side of the
house where the sun down here heats the place up to furnace levels in the
summer.
There are a few considerations, though, if you live in north of the
Mason-Dixon line:
I'll be moving along then...

2. You feel a sense of joy, meaning, and purpose that you celebrated

the true meaning, and if it stays with you, then 'you shall be free
indeed' (of the superficial things that our culture substitutes that
cannot fill the void deep inside the heart).
3. Enjoy the holiday as a break from the normal routine, then go back
to enjoying life for what it is. In my case, Christmas/New Years means
the countdown to Spring Training has begun.
I've never had a post-holiday depression.

I've had it...but more after Halloween. After Christmas, a
little...but mainly because I miss the lights.
