Because it's made by evaporative distillation, "spirits of menthol / camphor
/ etc.", and the terminology of Victorianity stuck but got part of it scraped
off. So just 'spirits'.

What would the windshield wiper alcohol from a Mig-25 Foxbat be called,
"spirits" as well?
The "flying restaraunt" as the Russkie pilots used to call the Foxbat loved
to call in that they needed to de-ice their windshields, and land and drain
the alcohol laden liquid, and party up that night.Or the moonshine distilled
from a car or truck radiator?Doesnt that, like, kill you faster than regular
pure alcohol because of the contaminants?Seems to me there should be some
sort of spiritual booze heirarchy.
No.Thats a really stupid idea.

Radiator fluid will give you oxalate poisoning, box your kidneys. No
ethyl alcohol in it.

Who drinks radiator fluid? Are you referring to residue of radiator fluid
in the moonshine that makes it so dangerous or poisonous?
Although, I jave seen pictures off WW2 Marines taking swigs of fuel on the
History Channel, when they have shows bout Island hopping and dealing with
the absolutely brainwashed/committed soldiers there in the Pacific theater.
"War"-Pacific Theater, shown nightly at 8:00 p.m.
The story of war, puppetry, reenacted in 50's "feel"-
smoke-filled club with men in dark shirts and women
in white dresses with black polkadots and a poet who
performs between puppet shows.
"Miss Emma Peel
Black boots kick
high at his face
One last look at
the grace of
Miss Emma Peel
Catch the curve of
your leather heel
Before he blacks out
That's another one down for
For Miss Emma Peel
For Miss Emma Peel
For Miss Emma Peel
For Miss Emma Peel"
