Church cancels memorial for gay Navy vet |
http://www.mercurynews.com/breakingnews/ci_6595094
ARLINGTON, Texas-A megachurch canceled a memorial service for a Navy veteran
24 hours before it was to start because the deceased was gay.
Officials at the nondenominational High Point Church knew that Cecil Howard
Sinclair was gay when they offered to host his service, said his sister,
Kathleen Wright. But after his obituary listed his life partner as one of
his survivors, she said, it was called off.
"It's a slap in the face. It's like, 'Oh, we're sorry he died, but he's gay
so we can't help you,'" she said Friday.
Wright said High Point offered to hold the service for Sinclair because
their brother is a janitor there. Sinclair, who served in the first Gulf
War, died Monday at age 46 from an infection after surgery to prepare him
for a heart transplant.
The church's pastor, the Rev. Gary Simons, said no one knew Sinclair, who
was not a church member, was gay until the day before the Thursday service,
when staff members putting together his video tribute saw pictures of men
"engaging in clear affection, kissing and embracing."
Simons said the church believes homosexuality is a sin, and it would have
appeared to endorse that lifestyle if the service had been held there.
"We did decline to host the service-not based on hatred, not based on
discrimination, but based on principle," Simons told The Associated Press.
"Had we known it on the day they first spoke about it-yes, we would have
declined then. It's not that we didn't love the family."

Anyone with a sense of decency should boycott that church.

Megachurches are just personality cults. Consider: Ever heard of one *without* a security
system loaded with cameras? The Gospel just saturates the places, don't it? All those
people. All those eyes. All those witnesses... And they need security cameras.
Moral folks must find it terribly onerous to testify in court.

will not, then they are not benevolent. If they are neither able or willing, then they are

evil, how does it exist?

Hate to have to tell you this, but homosexuals don't bomb many things. There are a few who
do blast things to make art, but they tend to utilize water heaters, stoves, dishwashers,
and whatnot. Buildings? Nope. That's rarer than abortion clinic bombings.

Yes, in fact I had a number of homosexuals tell me they were so happy
about me seeing and passing on to them a tip from the Fear Factor show
on NBC. I know you' too will be pleased to learn of this little known
fact and you'll be heading for your local butcher shop ASAP;
" We ordered a big box of rectums - known in the butcher
business as "bung" - and they arrived at our office in a frozen block.
Upon thawing, we were pleasantly surprised to discover that these
rectums were bigger than we had ever imagined. Each one was at least a
foot long!'" -NBC Fear Factor http://tiny.pl/54zh
You see with this information you can now enjoy life as a homosexual
in safety (no AIDS in a pig's *****) and as close to the real thing as
you can want.

declined then. It's not that we didn't love the family."
Yes, that is what it's about.
You might want to rephrase the last sentence, since it is clearly
not a case that "It's not that we didn't love the family.", although
what you meant is pretty clear.
They viewed the family as mere pawns in their war against a minority.
Otherwise they wouldn't have pulled the rug out from under the family
with only 24 hours notice. That's really inexcusable.

Since all his opinions are complaints, it is obvious that his opinion
is that he could find nothing to complain about. :-)

If they had instead "discovered" that the solider had had sex with his
girlfriend before he were married, I wonder if they would have called
a halt to the service.

So this Navy veteran who served his country and died, was judged by
this church and disrespected.
This is a big problem I am having with a lot of churches.
They are judging, harshly.
Look, I know what the bible says about homosexuality, and I truly
believe and have faith in God.
But who is going to be making the judgements?
Us?
or
God?

No, I don't think that the church would have been "endorsing" that
lifestyle.
The church, in my opinion, should have respected this veteran for his
service to his country and not even mentioned his lifestyle and left
the judgement to God.
That's just my opinion.

Let he who have not sinned, cast the first stone.

The lesson: Don't ever bothering to reach out or do your
part unless you're one of them. They'll only spit on you
later.

Points to you!
Look, I know what the bible says about homosexuality,
This I doubt *Very* much...

Unfortunately, doing good in one area doesn't excuse doing evil in
another area. If you shoot one person and save the life of another
person, you're a hero and a murderer. No matter how devoted this guy
was to his country, he did not live within the rules of the church.
So there's no reason the church should memorialize him. That's not
spitting on him. That's just being true to their beliefs. There was
no indication whatsoever that the church did anything at all against
the man or his memory other than refusing to hold his service on their
grounds.

He can interpret the Bible however he likes. It's called religious
freedom.
