CNN Poll Finds Majority Say They're Pro-Life, Abortion Key 2008 Issue

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A new poll conducted by Opinion
Research Corporation for CNN earlier this month find that a majority
of Americans say they are pro-life when it comes to the issue of
abortion. The survey also shows abortion is a key issue for the 2008
presidential campaign and that pro-life voters are more resolute than
abortion advocates.
When asked to self-identify as "pro-life" or "pro-choice" on the issue
of abortion, 50 percent of Americans call themselves pro-life while
just 45 percent say otherwise.
Another two percent said they didn't know what the terms meant and two
percent more felt they were a combination of the two.
Asked whether certain political issues were important to their vote
for president next year, a majority said abortion was important and
abortion was thought to be more pertinent than stem cell research.
Of the 1,028 adults conducted by telephone on May 4-6, 51 percent said
abortion was important with 27 percent saying it is extremely
important and 24 percent saying it's very important.
Another 24 percent said abortion is moderately important and only 24
percent said abortion is not that important to their vote.
That split was higher than the percentage who said stem cell research
is a pertinent issue with 48 percent saying it is important and only
20 percent saying it's extremely important. A higher 28 percent said
stem cell research was just moderately important.
CNN's poll also indicated that Americans who are pro-life show more
passion and intensity about their views than those who back abrotion
-- translating into more support for pro-life canddiates.
"People who describe themselves as pro-life are twice as likely to say
the issue will be extremely important to them than people who call
themselves pro-choice. Abortion-rights opponents have intensity on
their side," CNN said about the intensity question, which it did not
post in its poll summary information.
The poll also asked Americans about their thoughts on the recent
Supreme Court ruling upholding the federal ban on partial-birth
abortions.
It found that 66 percent think "government should make this procedure
illegal" while just 28 percent favor keeping partial-birth abortions
legal.
That compares favorably to a similar question CNN asked in October
2003 when the split on making partial-birth abortions illegal was
68-25 percent.

Our freedoms are not supposed to be subject to the wishes of the majority.
We should be free to do what we wish just as long as it does not harm other
persons.
Abortion is the decission of a women to remove an undesired growth from her
body. The fetus is not yet a pesron.
Other people should not be able to force women to do what they do not wish
about their own body.

The stats I've seen indicate that 70% of REPUBLICANS favor abortion
rights. It's higher among Republican women, of course. I'd be willing
to bet that 99% of Pugs with teenage daughters are secretly relieved
that they can spill the sin down the sink if the kid get knocked-up.
Abortion is a phoney issue. The Pugs want the abortion escape hatch as
much as any group does. Silly polls that ask superficial questions get
inncorrect results because people answer them as they think they
should be answered, not as they really behave. A classic is the Gallup
question, "Do you go to Church?" A huge majority will say that they
do. If you're a little more clever about it and ask what people did
last Sunday, about half the churchgoers disappear.

Bush was asked, many years ago, where he'd stand on the abortion issue
if one of his daughters got pregnant. His answer? "They won't." Not
very realistic for the man who has his hand on the button that could
end almost all life on the planet.

The results of an "honest" (the results are reported honestly) poll
are usually within a few points of what the pollsters want it to be,
because they know how to ask the question to get the desired response.
My wife used to be in the business, so there are very few polls she'll
participate in.
"Are you in favor of allowing the killing of babies before they have
the chance to be born?"
"Are you in favor of forcing women to carry all pregnancies to term?"
Same question, but I'll bet the results would be totally different.

Wrong again, pro-liar. It is a fact that a fetus is not a person.
No, its not a fact.
I can look at laws from across the world that say a fetus is not a
person.
That's because science can't (yet) agree on exactly when life begins.
That's another lie. Science has many tools to determine what is or is
not alive.
That isn't the question. The question is EXACTLY WHEN does "life" begin.
I'm sure you'd agree that immediately after Life Begins we're talking about
TAKING a life in regard to Abortion, and for all the time prior to Life
Begins we're NOT talking about taking a life.
Science STILL can't agree on EXACTLY WHEN a "life" begins.
Science still can't agree on it.
Science is not relevant. "Person" is a legal and social
classification, not a scientific term.
No,
Yes.
that legal and social classification is based on NOT knowing exactly
when life begins.
No, pro-liar, it is based upon human traditions. Don't assume that
everybody is as ignorant and prejudiced as are you.
Tradition doesn't enter into legal or social or scientific classification.
If we knew EXACTLY WHEN "life" begins we could easily change laws to
accomodate both sides of the abortion issue.
Nobody said otherwise, *****, but as has been explained to you
dumbshits repeatedly, abortion is not and has never been murder.
That's your opinion.
Wrong yet again, dumbshit. It is fact.
You're opinions aren't facts.

No, you are just delusional. I'm dead on target. The average person who
claims to be pro-choice has no option other than to claim the fetus is not a
person. The average pro-choice person is so set on defending abortion, that
he or she refuses to acknowledged that the fetus is a human being and/or a
unborn child...even though many states have laws that recognize the "unborn
child".
The reason is...because if you were to recognize these things..you couldn't
possibly justify abortion.
Let's say the fetus is considered to be a person
- now justify letting any other person use a woman's body against her
will.
Easy...to preserve life.
Justify a man being forced, adding stress to his body and state of mind, to
support a child against his will.

Fetal personhood is irrelevant to an argument that abortion is a right
of removal. The right of an individual to avoid enforced use of
bodily resources by another entity has a violent but ultimately
glorious history in the US. Since the Emancipation Proclamation, I
believe it is fair to characterize the American polity as being fairly
protective of at least one aspect of the boidly autonomy of
individuals: preventing enforced use of bodily resources by another
entity. Abortion rights are a straightforward extension in the
evolution of this strongly protected right: Simply stated it protects
control over bodily resources by allowing for removal of the fetus.
Any legal person is guaranteed the right to remove any entity that
occupies her (his) body against her (his) will regardless of the
effect on that entity. Hence, if a pig entered the body of a man, he
could have it removed, regardless of the effect on the pig. If a
small child entered the body of a man, he could have it removed,
regardless of the effect on the child. If a /z/e/f/ enters the body
of a woman, she may remove it, regardless of the effect on the
/z/e/f/. The personhood of the /z/e/f/ is immaterial.
And yes, fetus fanatics, I believe that the life of a viable fetus
should be protected in the abortion procedure -- provided this
protection poses no additional risk to the mother. Much more
fundamentally, however, it should be noted that the proportion of
abortions involving a viable fetus is miniscule and that there is no
credible [1] evidence that the medical profession does not already
protect the relatively few viable /z/e/f/s whose mothers do get
abortions.
[1] Credible in this context reviewed by professional peers (fellow
priests are not included).

We should be free to do what we wish just as long as it does not harm

Then if a man tells a woman, he doesn't want to be a father and
doesn't want the financial responsibility of raising a child; and she
gets pregnant and has the child...he should be able to be free to just
walk away. Do you agree?
What choice does he have?
I'll tell you...
He has two choices.
Pay or go to jail and have your life ruined.
Abortion is the decission of a women to remove an undesired growth from
her
body. The fetus is not yet a pesron.
That is exactly what those on the pro-choice HAVE to say, or else you
couldn't attempt to justify the choice for abortion.
Wrong.
No, you are just delusional. I'm dead on target. The average person who
claims to be pro-choice has no option other than to claim the fetus is not a
person. The average pro-choice person is so set on defending abortion,
....defending the RIGHT for women to safely and privately choose to
obtain an abortion at her discretion. It doesn't have anything to do
with why the fetus isn't a yet person.
that
he or she refuses to acknowledged that the fetus is a human being and/or a
unborn child...even though many states have laws that recognize the "unborn
child".
They've "recognize" that somebody doesn't have the right to
arbitrarily kill a viable fetus -- especially if the woman has
explicitly expressed her consent to having it.
Is that what you think happened to you when you willingly sired two
daughters with your first wife? Hoping for boys the first two times,
but got the "damned girls," instead?
