Currently available on the Comedy Central's web site, there's videos
one can watch for the Colbert Report. One of them is a piece on
disasters and Stephen described a four part plan on what to do in the
event of a nuclear attack, earthquake, biological attack, or whatever.
Step #1 was to get Stephen to a place of safety.
Step #2 was to get all of Stephen's _stuff_ to safety, everything in
his office is bubble wrapped by his staff.
But step #3 was _horrible. Just HORRIBLE! Which is why it was so
funny I ended up screaming with laughter.
They're doing the drill for a disaster and Stephen is calling in to
the office on the week end during the drill whereas all his staff
were required to come into the office to perform the disaster drill.
They staged a helicopter spiriting Stephen away to a safe place
and then they showed step 2, his office getting packed up. As they're
bubble wrapping the seal skin sofa -- a huge sofa -- they start in
on step #3, getting his staff to safety.
They showed a woman running down a hallway into a stair well and
the guy doing the piece, taking the orders from Stephen who's at
home, starts down the stairs saying they would normally take the
elivator 35 flights down to safety except that there's a sofa in it
and there's no room so they have to take the stairs.
He gets to a landing in the stair well and there's a guy in a
wheel chair who's having difficulty getting down to safety -- this
is a drill, remember.
So the guy holds his ear piece and microphone and reports back to
Stephen that there's a hitch in the evacuation plan, that there's
a disabled person in the stairs who can't make it out.
Apparently Stephen tells the guy to leave him and the guy on camera
says, "I can't leave a man behind!" He listens to the ear piece
for a bit, gives a sob, steps behind the guy in the wheel chair
and snaps his neck. Then he continues down the stairs sobbing.
He killed the guy during a disaster drill rather than leave him
behind to suffer.
