Object: Commercial Time on AM radio
I used to listen to Air America when it was available on my Sirius
Satellite Radio, but disliked the frequent and long commercial breaks.
When they moved to XM, I bought a subscription to their Podcast, which
allows me to listen without the commercials.
My MP3 player displays the elapsed time. This shows that the actual
amount of broadcast time is about 50% of the total time! "Hour 2" of the
Al Franken show started after 30 min elapsed time, and "Hour 3" at 1hr, 15
min.
That is a LOT of commercials edited out. I don't see how AM radio will
survive if the content is that diluted. It is well worth the money to buy
a subscription, instead.

Listening on the net is worse, if you have any kind of security
package.
The popup ads are annoying, but they start scripts which the security
package asks you if you want to run or not.
At which point the radio hangs until you respond.
But I found the station appalling. As unthinkingly bad as Limbaugh
etc.

I don't listen to the content live. Same problem with commercials. I
download the podcast, then listen when I'm in the car, etc.
As far as content, I like Al Franken and Randi Rhodes. I haven't really
listened to the other shows that much.

The local (right-wing owned & operated) Clear Channel
station is even worse. They need to dump Ed Shultz and
push up Stephanie Miller... neither of which are "Official"
Air America personalities.
And as much as I understand Jerry Springer is an
intelligent, politically in-tune guy, I just can't take
him serious.
But, most of all, Air America has to stop doing business
with lunatc right-wing owned & operated Clear Channel.
I tuned in the local Air America station in downtown
Boston one morning, only to get an ear full of static.
And, oh, this wasn't the first or last time I've had such
problems, and I've read complaints from people in other
parts of the country experiencing the same problems
with Clear Channel stations.
One of the top-ten media markets in the country, and
Clear Channel has Air America on a 5,000 watt
station.
