fact is, that the material on a popular South African portal (iafrica.com)
is far worse. it used to have dignity. they've sacrificed that and turned
loose a bunch of young African writers who write the most abysmal
doggerel.
More like dogger-*****.
they seem to have decided to target very young browsers instead of the 30
plus crowd.
The 6-18 months crowd?
read www.iafrica.com and www.tashitagg.co.za yourself and draw your own
conclusions.
personally i feel that my community site at www.adderleystreet.co.za had
more spark than either of these two.
unfortunately, community sites are not well supported commercially speaking.
Tashi Tagg was turned down by google for their adsense program - they don't
advertise on community sites, especially not those containing excessive
profanity, which is what Tashi Tagg is guilty of.
Tashi Tagg survives because they aligned themselves with SABC3 and carry
editorials on their programs.
They initially achieved fame by being a fan site for the first South African
Big Brother. The Big Brother site linked to them and that's how I found them
initially.
Running a community web site is incredibly hard work and the rewards are not
fantastic - no one is going to become a millionaire doing it, except
possibly if you have a huge following numbering in the tens or hundreds of
millions.
