Conservative Oz Politicians Form "Family Values" Lobby Group |
From QP Newspaper, Friday September 26, 2003. My comments in asterixis *.
Forty five Federal Coalition MPs have joined together to form a new "family
values" lobby group, which critics claim is a resurrection of the
controversial right wing Lyons Forum of the 1990s.
Dubbed the Family Policy Group, the lobby includes 12 ministers of the
Howard Government including Tony Abbott, Nick Minchin and Deputy Prime
Minister John Anderson.
The group's convenor, Alan Cadman was a senior member of the Lyons Forum,
Which lobbied heavily during the 1990s against abortion, pornography and
recognition of gay relationships *and basic rights*.
"It's just an informal group-we're trying to get a few people in from
outside to help us look at policy and look at the future," said Cadman.
*Isn't it amazing how conservative politicians think that the repressive
past would make for a wonderfully free future*
Cadman denied the new group would be a resurrected from of the Lyons Forum.
"That got off the rails a bit, I'm afraid." he said.
Other members include ministerial members Mark Vaile, Larry Anthony,
Alexander Downer, David Kemp, Eric Abetz, Chris Ellison, Peter McGauran and
Danna Vale.

That's what conservatism is... the illusion that the 50s was the zenith of
society.
