This is a book written around 1986, some 9 years after the series of
raids and indictments against the crime syndicate.
In this book, the author pokes a little fun at L. Ron Hubbard. One of
the protagonists' mother used to keep putting posted of Jesus, Hubbard,
or the Catholic Virgin Mary up on his and his brother's walls until
the brother got tired of it and took a hammer and threatened to kill
the television simstim projector where his mother spent some 8 hours a
day wrapped up in a daze of "Important People" soap operas designed to
keep the ignorant rabble dumb, happy, and forever ignorant.
I thought it was amusing; the dumbest character in the whole book -- a
women who is never actually seen but is the archtype of the majority of
the arcology the protagonist lives in, tapes up Jesus, Hubbard, and Mary
posters.
