Court orders goat thief to say sorry
Tue Nov 6, 8:18 AM ET
An Australian woman who stole a pet goat and was involved in
slaughtering it in a mock Satanic ritual in a church, was ordered by a
court on Monday to apologize to the church and the dead goat's owners.
Tracey Arnold, 26, was drinking with friends at a Friday the 13th party
in 2006 when she decided to steal the pet goat named "Maddie" from the
front garden of a house in the northern city of Brisbane, local media
reported from the court.
The partygoers then broke into a local church, dragging the goat onto a
raised platform and killed it in a mock Satanic ritual, reported
Brisbane's Courier Mail newspaper.
The goat's head was later found by police in the freezer of Arnold's
home, along with a camera containing photos of members of the group with
the head.
Arnold's lawyer told the Brisbane Magistrates Court that his client did
not have a "macabre disposition" but that when she drank alcohol she
made poor decisions.
Magistrate John Costello ordered Arnold to apologize in person to the
goat's owners and the Bellbowrie Community Church and undergo
psychiatric treatment.
Arnold was also ordered to pay A$70 (US$64) in compensation to the
goat's owners and $1,535 for damage caused to the church.

How about an order prohibiting her from ever drinking again, under
penalty of prison for violation? Or do they wait until she makes the
"poor decision" to slaughter a person "in a mock Satanic ritual"?

I think it was more just some young people getting drunk and doing
something dumb for a joke. Although, I don't think others, especially
the owners of the goat found it funny.

That's where she "makes poor decisions" when she drinks alcohol, isn't
it? So it's sensible to allow her to continue making poor decisions,
and getting slapped on the wrist?

I once pushed and punched a guy (I was a little woozy at the time) for
tormenting a snake. The snake got away when the guy ran. I'm rather
proud of that, but I don't drink anymore, either, and I haven't for a
very long time.
As for these mock Satanists, it's a shame the Aussies don't believe in
caning. All of them deserve to be publicly shamed. I can't stand the
thought of hurting an animal, especially one that's been raised as a
pet and who trusts people. Even goats feel intense fear and pain,
pretty much as you and I do. Tormenting and killing animals is often a
step, too, in a path that leads to tormenting and killing people,
especially children. These people who killed the goat should be put
under surveillance. The woman liked the goat-killing enough to keep a
macabe souvenier -- the goat's head. That's a symptom of severe mental
inbalance. Dahmler started with animals, as did any number of other
serial killers. He kept souveniers, too, as did Bundy and several
others.
This isn't the end to her fascination with torturing and killing
animals, and it probably wasn't the beginning. I hope the people in
her neighbor keep their pets away from her and watch their children.
This woman has most likely killed before, probably rising from birds,
turtles and lizards to cats and dogs.

Yes, I had read that about Dahmer, how he stated out killing animals. It's
definitely one of the symptoms of a serial killer to be. And while I
couldn't imagine killing an animal like that (goats are actually quite
smart), why in the hell would she keep its head? That's just sick :P

Interesting

Yes, I had read that about Dahmer, how he stated out killing animals. It's
definitely one of the symptoms of a serial killer to be. And while I
couldn't imagine killing an animal like that (goats are actually quite

Of course it's sick. I doubt most elements of this story, anyway. I
think she and her friends (why do people like this have friends?) were
not nearly as dunk as they claim. She saved the head so she could take
it out and look at it. She probably gets off on imagining its pain and
terror. If she lived near me, I'd move away.

This isn't the end to her fascination with torturing and killing
animals, and it probably wasn't the beginning. I hope the people in
her neighbor keep their pets away from her and watch their children.
This woman has most likely killed before, probably rising from birds,
turtles and lizards to cats and dogs.

Yikes :(

I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating the danger, but I don't think I
am. Fear of punishment may keep her confined to torturing small
animals, but this is the kind of person that be put on probation and
remanded to psychiatric care and observation for a while.
I still feel sorry for the goat. I had a friend who kept a pet goat
that was very friendly and stayed remarkably clean. He'd follow you
around and liked to be petted. He lived a long, safe life and finally
died, mostly of old age. The kids in the neighborhood all went into a

Yes, I had read that about Dahmer, how he stated out killing animals.
It's
definitely one of the symptoms of a serial killer to be. And while I
couldn't imagine killing an animal like that (goats are actually quite
smart), why in the hell would she keep its head? That's just sick :P

Gak, I would probably due that myself ;P

This isn't the end to her fascination with torturing and killing
animals, and it probably wasn't the beginning. I hope the people in
her neighbor keep their pets away from her and watch their children.
This woman has most likely killed before, probably rising from birds,
turtles and lizards to cats and dogs.

Yikes :(

I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating the danger, but I don't think I
am.

No, you're definitely not.

The kids in the neighborhood all went into a
kind of mourning for a few days. Some cried.

I could imagine. When I was a kid, I had a pet lamb that I sent to live on
a farm the next down over when he got too big. They had an adorable goat
named Nicky, which was short for Nicotine. Apparently he loved to eat
cigarettes. He could be a feisty little *****, but generally had a great
personality and was a lot of fun.
As I get older and as

more is discovered about the brains of animals, the wisdom of
vegeterianism becomes more and more appealing. I won't eat meat,
unless I'm compelled to, although I still enjoy fish every now and
then. If I were a better person, I'd probably abstain from fish as
well.

I'm actually coming up on the one-year anniversary of my turning vegetarian.
Couldn't imagine going back ;)

slaughtering it in a mock Satanic ritual in a church, was ordered by a
court on Monday to apologize to the church and the dead goat's owners.

Brisbane's Courier Mail newspaper.

Heh! This part got me:

"Arnold's lawyer told the Brisbane Magistrates Court that his client did
not have a "macabre disposition" but that when she drank alcohol she

Reminds me of a few "poor decisions" I made after I drank alcohol. No
animal sacrifices though.
