Cross at ground zero draws complaints from atheist group

TRENTON, N.J. -- A steel beam in the symmetrical shape of a cross _ a
remnant from the World Trade Center wreckage _ has drawn criticism from
an atheist group, which objects to the artifact being kept at ground
zero as a religious emblem.

But anyway, I know its a fairly old story. Since the land is owned by the
Port Authority (a government agency), the cross should not be there. Aside
from the obvious endorsement of the Christian religion, what if a Muslim
group wanted to put a symbol of THEIR religion on the site?

Suggesting what to do with the cross would probably be more
successful than just advocating its removal; since a greek
orthodox church across the street from the towers was destroyed
by the collapse, maybe they would accept it and use it when
they rebuild the church.
