Korea has two choices for non-Korean listeners: AFN radio, which
is propaganda ***** and mindnumbing "chart toppers" from the
US (eg. the Casey Kasem show). The other choice is the classical
music station, which is usually tolerable, but the announcements
are all in Korean.
Now that I'm in the Philippines, there's a little more choice,
about thirty odd stations in Manila. Many are in English with
little news and mostly safe bland pop. About the only one I can
listen to regularly so far is called "Dream 102" which mostly
plays "mellow 1960/70/80's pop".
Regarding internet radio, my personal favourity is "Gothic Radio":
<http://www.gothicradio.com/>
It may not, however, be to your tastes. ^_^
By the by, does anyone out there know of a Texas-hillbilly internet
radio station (eg. Reverend Horton Heat, Southern Culture on the
Skids)? If you can't picture it, think of the music in "From Dusk
'Till Dawn".
Happiness is a loaded iPod!
Or a working computer to reload your 256MB MP3 player. I still
need to get a new PC, I'm getting tired of the four Rush/Queen
albums I have on it....

Been there, done that; my last MP3 player was a Samsung "Yepp" with only 64
megs. Maybe 1 album and change if the music's all re-done in low
resolution. It was okay--but I really disliked the computer side of it.
Their "desktop" wanted access to all my files, and wanted to phone home to
Samsung to report on what it found and what I was listening to. It also
took a while to upload songs to.
The iPod is much cleaner as far as getting stuff onto it, once you work out
the computer side of things. I had it for almost 2 weeks before I actually
found a program online that would let it interface with Win98 (Apple's
installation CD won't let you install on anything less than Win2K/ME). Paid
$25 for that--and no spyware.

I'm thinking of doing some PodCasting--get the software, have it monitor
subscribed websites and download shows from them, then throw them to my
iPod for while I'm at work. NPR is the only non-con "talk" station, but my
local affiliate only runs news programming, and even then it's BBC
overnight, "All Things Considered" from 4a to 9a, classical music from 9a
to 1p, and more news from then to 6p. When I lived in Tallahassee, WFSU did
the news stuff, but did a lot of local and national call-in/discussion
programming.
I'd love to have something like "Air America"--but I don't see that
happening in my area anytime soon.

KEXP Programming:
http://kexp.org/programming/programming.asp
There is a wide variety. The DJ's have a lot of control over the
playlists and I have never heard a song repeated during a shift. Paul
Allen dumped a lot of money into the web site. It has a two week
running archive of all their programming that can be streamed whenever
you wish. They just finished their pledge drive and did very well. They
get donations from the UK and New York quite often.

Looks like you listen to "the Rocket" too! You don't get 92.1 WZEW,
at least I couldn't when I lived in Pcola (pretty cool stuff from
60s,70s and 80s) but I usually listen to one of those two. My radio
has 18 preset buttons, I use 3!

It could be that the truck radio wasn't picking up WZEW when I was scanning
stations (damnford!). I was bored, in the midst of a long delivery run, and
decided to make up a list of what was "out there" (little did I know how
"out there" some of the stations would be).
I keep forgetting to add 96.1 to my presets in the work truck; I need to
hear a different selection of three songs per band ;)

That sounds about like the stations around here. I live in a fairly
secluded area, surrounded by small mountains in each direction which makes
it worse. There's a decent station out of Little Rock that sporadically
comes in, and when it does come in it will sometimes only come in in certain
parts of town. There are a few local stations, but none of them are worth
listening to. I'm glad I have a CD player in my car.

I have an AM/FM radio with CD...in a box...in my room. Had it for 6 months
now and haven't felt like installing the thing. :/
