Google has fucked up Usenet access *again*. Won't display more than
the 6-8 first posts in a thread (yeah, Canada too). See ya after they
fix it, or I get a real newsreader! <g>
Sorry if I let any threads drop..

I was forced to use Google-Groups after my ISP shut down news server service
without notice a while back. UGGGGHHHHHH, peh yewwweeeey!!
I then made the *hugely* stupid mistake of not reading the details of
Powerusenet before committing to at least three months of the inability to
post *anything* and headers that are dated days, even *weeks* (try like 9/5
and 9/10!) in the future. I finally settled on Supernews. Seems to work just
fine. Did someone say 'Peh yewwweeeey!' in regards to Google-Groups? (But it
*is* free.)

Yeah, I've heard great things about it...but it's a work computer and
I don't want to download anything onto it. I should have bought a new
computer for the house by now, but I keep on spending it on my cars
(the daily driver got hit, and I've been driving the collectables to
work. They don't like that. <g>),

USB works with :
http://www.40tude.com/dialog/download.htm
which is a clone of agent on speed. It even does forgein languages with
out you begging, & UTF is supported. Spect I will eventually migrate to
it.

-PF, etc.

for windows, & do any of them work as claimed & work well?

When Time-Warner usenet was down I had to use Google Groups. Worst week
of my life, in terms of the internet.
I finally dumped T-W in favor of AT&T U-Verse. They're good. Not
perfect, but good. My one big complaint is that everything, including
the cable TV, is plugged into one cable modem. The modem is its own
router, so my computer's IP is a local IP, which makes it impossible to
play Links Golf online unless my opponent hosts the game. Oh well.
Check with your ISP and see if they have a usenet server built in to
your account. Then download Xnews, enter the protocols, and enjoy
usenet like you never have before!

Go to
<http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm>
and see if you can find your modem. If you can, you can find
instructions for forwarding the ports you need.
(Or call tech support, if they have a tech with a brain cell that
works.)

There is a very suboptimal "temporary fix": If you either use the
"standard view" (rather than the tree view), or sort them by date
instead of by replies, then all messages show.
They are both bad options for long or old threads, though.

The few times I had to use Google Groups really made me miss Deja News.
