Damned religious b.s. |
22 years old.
What a sad and stupid waste :-(
Mother dies after refusing blood.
A young mother has died after giving birth to twins, amid claims that
she had refused a blood transfusion because of her faith.
Jehovah's Witness Emma Gough, 22, from Telford, Shropshire, gave birth
on 25 October.
The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital said an internal review into the case
would take place.
Family friend Terry Lovejoy said: "They are going through an immense
amount of turmoil and grief."
He added: "We follow the Bible and abstain from blood and I've got no
reason to believe that Emma didn't share those views."
The twins, a boy and a girl, are healthy and being cared for by their
father, Anthony Gough, 24.

Too bad she was able to pass on her defective genes.

Faith is in all or genes.
We've just learned to a bit better not to place it in superstition.
Unfortunetly the father is likely to pass on the b.s.

The mother dies due to her crazy beliefs, beliefs her father
apparently shares. Why the ***** are those poor kids not in care?

They should be. If the kids should have get sick and need a transfusion,
they would meet the same fate as their mother. It's not the kids' fault
that the parents misinterpret the ignorant scribblings of some
unidentified bronze age goatherd.

Because, in the US, you almost have the right to kill your kids, if
the death is due to the beliefs of a major religion. (Despite lip
service to "equality", doing the same thing due to the beliefs of a
minor cult can get you killed.)

"Given that you exist and that you are aware of your situation and
surroundings, you will find yourself in a place which has conditions
exactly suitable to your being there. If the environment was
hostile or incompatible in some important way then you would not be
there in the first place. Therefore the suitability and seeming
perfection of your universe cannot be taken as evidence of anything
more than your existence in it."

Pretty much the only difference between a cult and a major religion is
that a cult only kills those of its own membership.

Pretty much the only difference between a cult and a major religion is
that a cult only kills those of its own membership.
Tell that to the people killed by Mormonism when it was still a small
cult. The only difference is in how powerful the particular cult is.

Imagine the people who believe such things and who are not ashamed
to ignore totally all the patient findings of thinking minds through all
the centuries since the Bible was written. And it is these ignorant
people, the most uneducated, the most unimaginative, the most unthinking
among us who would make themselves the guides and leaders of us all, who
would force their feeble and childish beliefs on us, who would invade
our schools and libraries and homes.

I have a friend who is a deacon in the Jehovah's Witnesses.
He's surprisingly open minded.
We discussed the Bible a lot and he ended up better educated.
I once asked if one of his daughters was severely injured and could
only be saved by a transfusion would he deny it.
He replied that he hoped he would have the strength to do so.
I then asked him about the absurdity the leadership calls "New light."
<The leadership gets messages from God sometimes changing the rules>
I pointed out things in the religion that were once forbidden but no
longer are.
I also reminded him about their many failed prophecies concerning
dates for the second coming.
<Did you know that they once insisted their members not send their
children to college because Jesus would be back shortly?>
He admitted they had been wrong and had to change their minds on
numerous occasions.
I then asked how he would feel if his daughter died as a result of his
choice to deny the transfusion and three weeks later the leadership
received new light and decided that transfusions were now ok.
He had never considered it and after thinking about it admitted that
he would be in his words "Pretty pissed."
I reminded him that despite his anger and faith his daughter would
still be dead.
He now admits to being at least agnostic but remains a Jehovah's
Witness for the fellowship and that alone.
Score one for the good guys.
Btw, it would be the third coming of Jesus, not the second.
I wish everybody would get clear on that :-)
