Axton pastor gets prison in abuse case
DANVILLE - A pastor of a Baptist church has been sentenced to 40 years
in prison for sexually abusing a girl.
Jeffrey Hairston, 46, of Axton, was convicted in January of five
counts of indecent liberties with a minor and five counts of having
carnal knowledge of a minor. Pittsylvania County Circuit Judge Charles
Strauss imposed the jury's recommended sentence this month.
Hairston, who was pastor of New Cascade Primitive Baptist Church for
28 years, received two years in prison for each of the charges of
indecent liberties with a minor and six years for each of the carnal
knowledge charges. He was also ordered to pay a $25,000 fine.
According to court documents, the incidents occurred between Aug. 12,
2004, and Jan. 31, 2005. Hairston had a "custodial or supervisory"
relationship with the girl, who is now 14.
