Object: Darwinian Transformation
Humanity's Space in the Universe
Daniel Dennett writes:
For as long as our ancestors have been making tools, it has no doubt
seemed obvious that an excellent artifact can be created only by
something even more excellent: a clever artificer. You never see a
shoe creating a cobbler; you never see a house making a carpenter.
Darwin overthrew that received wisdom. One of Darwin's earliest
critics, Robert Beverley MacKenzie, could not contain his outrage:
In the theory with which we have to deal, Absolute Ignorance is the
artificer; so that we may enunciate as the fundamental principle of
the whole system, that, in order to make a perfect and beautiful
machine, it is not requisite to know how to make it.. This proposition
will be found...to express in a few words all Mr. Darwin's meaning; who,
by a strange inversion of reasoning, seems to think Absolute Ignorance
fully qualified to take the place of Absolute Wisdom in all the
achievements of creative skill.

Get an education in logic. You quite obviously do not have any!
Evolution is not based on the assumption that living things were created
from nothing. It is based on a wealth of evidence
that living things have evolved to their present state over billions of
years as the result of survival of the fittest. The best
capability to survive in the existent environment.

*****. Darwin did no such thing.

One of Darwin's earliest critics, Robert Beverley MacKenzie, could not
contain his outrage:
In the theory with which we have to deal, Absolute Ignorance is the
artificer; so that we may enunciate as the fundamental principle of
the whole system, that, in order to make a perfect and beautiful
machine,

What perfect and beautiful machine? Is life perfect?

it is not requisite to know how to make it..

No machine has ever been invented by a man who knew how to make it. Edison
did not know how to make a practical light bulb --- his notes are repleat
with dispairing entries, failure after failure. He only knew how to make a
practical light bulb *after* he made one.

This proposition will be found...to express in a few words all Mr.
Darwin's meaning; who, by a strange inversion of reasoning, seems to think
Absolute Ignorance fully qualified to take the place of Absolute Wisdom in
all the achievements of creative skill.

But in fact, life is not ignorant and certainly is far from absolutely
ignorant.

He's using his own level of ignorance to judge us all.
