Dave Allen dead |
I regret to have to say the the great Irish comedian Dave Allen
has died at the age of 68.
An atheist himself he used to tell minor lighthearted jokes
about the RC religion and was famous for his short sketches.
He used to ape the fundy protestant preachers with their
rantings.
They just showed an old sketch when he, an RC priest goes into
the confession box and collects betting slips there from punters.
Probably old hat but quite novel at the time.
He always ended his shows with "May your god go with you."
A very funny man I never missed any of his TV shows

Last night several newsprogrammes showed bits of his TV appearances. They
showed a section of the Parkinson show. Parkinson asks him "what is your
position on religion?" And Allen replies "I'm an atheist". And the audience
bursts into laughter! What is supposed to be so funny about that? They cut
the scene there, so I couldnt see Allen's reaction to the audience's
laughter.

Dave couldn't say or do anything without making people laugh. It was his

My favorite bit from him was a baptismal font chasing a priest down
the aisle, droning "Exterminate! Exterminate!". The priest took refuge
in the confession box, which proceeded to vanish like the TARDIS.

All I've seen is "he died in his sleep." Apparently he was ill over
Christmas, but recovered.
Pity, really. If he'd hung on a bit longer, he could have been in the
running for the next Pope!
