KONG SLATED FOR JULY 4 RADIO PANEL, BAY AREA,
ON RELIGION & POLITICS

panelist on Monday, July 4, 2005 on KALW-FM radio, 91.7 broadcasting
throughout the San Francisco area. There program can also be heard
live on the internet.
"Though our constitution makes a clear distinction between church and
state, the lines between politics and faith have been increasingly
blurred and political leaders have invoked their religious beliefs in
promoting public policy. A recent poll by the Pew Forum found that 72%
of Americans agreed with this statement: The president should have
strong religious beliefs."
This panel will take up the question: What is the role of religion in
public policy and politics? Should our public policy reflect our
religious values? If so, which religion?
Other panelists include Ben Lopez, lobbyist for the Traditional Values
Coalition and James Winkler, General Secretary, General Board of Church
and Society.
