A state legislative candidate from the Swan Valley was charged with
misdemeanor partner assault Monday in Missoula Justice Court for
allegedly abusing his wife. Thomas A. Opre, 39, was arrested Sunday
evening after his wife called 911 and reported that he had hit and
grabbed her in an aggressive manner.

When the deputy told the woman that Opre was going to jail, she asked
the officer to "just warn or scare him into not doing this kind of
thing again," according to records.

Opre, a REPUBLICAN and wildlife filmmaker, is running against state
Rep. Kevin Furey for control of House District 91, which spans eastern
Missoula County. Opre has no previous criminal record.

reported the incident."
