Just sent to
the following message:
"I have a friend named Bubba who owes me $500 and am
wondering if you'se guys over there at Daystar can help me out.
"If I die before I can collect, I wanna give you'se guys over
there the right to take legal action and collect the $500 that
Bubba owes me."
Can you help me out? I'm a God-Fearin' Texan, and have
watched Joni and Marcus for the past five years on TV and
just luv' 'em to death, and I wanna make sure that if I die before
I can collect the $500 from my friend Bubba, that they have the
right to go after Bubba and collect the money he owes me.
$500 could help to feed a lot of starving kids, so I wanna make
sure that it goes to a good cause like yours!
I don't have any speedboats or lakeside condos to donate to
your wonderful ministry, but I was hoping you can accept the $500
that Bubba owes me as a token of my appreciation.
Praise Jesus and your ministry!"

"Oración" means "prayer" or "oration." "Petición" can mean "petition"
(as in a political petition") as well as "request" or "demand."
"Petición de Oración" would properly translate as "prayer request."

I guess I saw an Oracle that wasn't really there, but even so, there
does seem to be an intermediary involved, else the person
making the prayer request wouldn't need to be making it to
anyone or anything but some god itself, directly. The hope
of having someone on the other end of an email-prayer-line
seems to be enough for many people to indulge in, just in case..
Just like the people who stick letters into the cracks in the western

I'm wondering if some people over in Israel haven't started charging
invalids a certain amount of money to carry their prayer notes to the
western wall to stuff 'em in there.

There is this nutty idea that 100 people praying for the same thing is more
effective than having just one person pray. I dunno, maybe a crowd can
change God's mind on the matter, or perhaps one person's voice tends to get
lost in the vast sea of humanity and a large group is needed to raise the
volume above the general noise.

Just like the people who stick letters into the cracks in the western

Or notes at the feet of saint's statues, or fake body parts representing
things that need healing at shrines.

Oh yeah. I've heard of Jewish organizations that will (for a small fee, of
course) do just that. Christian ones, too, although at least you get some
of the "sacred" water of Lourdes back in token of your effort.

Well, the Bible does say that if two or more of any *real* Christians
get together and make a prayer, Jesus promised to answer it. I guess
*no* is an answer to those Christians.

Why everyone can't realize such things are nothing more than
"letters to Santa" I can't figure out. I guess as long as some adults
are doing it, other adults don't feel so stupid or childish doing it
themselves.

Apparently Israel has a postal carrier which goes to the wall every
day to stuff letters into the cracks, apart from any private groups
which do the same thing for a fee.

You can even email prayers to one site that will print them and bring
them to the wall. So you see, their god CAN change with the times.
(Now, if only he'd post his email address, we could do away with the
wall entirely.)

There have been some complaints filed against Daystar with the FCC.
Apparently they are not allowed to have their programmers fundraise on
educational licenses. They also have been selling their airtime which
is also not allowed on educational licenses. I believe their new
station in Dallas is an educational licensed station. You can do a
search on the FCC.gov wegsite.

Daystar recently bought out channel 2 here in the Dallas area. It
used to be a PBS type public education channel somewhat like channel
13, but now it's a religious channel. I noticed that some of the
shows that used to be on channel 2 have moved over to channel 13,
so it's not a total loss for PBS.
Channel 13 does a lot of fundraising on the air, asking for donations,
so I don't understand how the FCC could make a law that doesn't
allow such fundraising, be it educational, or religious.

From what I understand, an educational station can only raise money
for that station. You can not have other people on the station raising
money for their own religious organizations. They(Daystar) probably
have other televangelists shows on their station that are raising
money for their religious organizations.Channel 13 could not have a
show about evolution on where the scientist was asking for money for
HIS non-profit foundation.

I've noticed that Marcus and Joni interview all kinds of guests who
have books and tapes for sale, as well as having other televangelists
on their shows. Benny Hinn has is own show on the new channel 2,
and Kenneth "Evil Eyes" Copeland is on his show all the time, actually
preaching at Benny, screaming at him like a maniac at times. It's
actually scary for me to watch, and I can't take it for long before I
have to switch channels. I generally only run across them while
channel flipping during commercials, and if I see something
interesting, I might stay tuned for a few minutes.

Ah, that seems to be a big difference right there.
I don't know if the new channel 2 is even supposed to be considered
"educational" or not by the Lambs, but it wouldn't surprise me to find
out that's the case.

It's considered "Educational" by the FCC. They are cheaper to buy then
a commercial channel. They probably sold a commercial station to get
more money and then buy a cheaper educational channel.

Daystar sold channel 29 in order to buy channel 2. I saw it as them
wanting more power on the airwaves, but if I understand what you're
saying, they might actually be in trouble, since they sold an
expensive channel and bought a cheaper one.
