Charity begins at home, ends at City Hall

"The last time the Roman Catholic Church and the San Francisco Board
of Supervisors squared off on same-sex marriage, the Special City's
thought police essentially forced Catholic Charities to renounce
Catholic doctrine in order to continue receiving city funds it needs
to care for the sick..."

So my question is why the catholic church considers it "charity" to
use public money to provide its social services? They can still
care for the sick and feed the homeless all they want, but if they
want to discriminate then they shouldn't expect to use tax money
for it.
The government is perfectly capable of treating the sick or feeding
the poor or placing babies with adoptive parents. The catholic
church tries to imply that if it doesn't provide adoption services
then the babies will go unadopted, but why would that be so? And
why should it be using my tax money to provide a service that it
then takes credit for? Why should my tax money be used to promote
the appearance of generosity of a religion that I oppose? If they
really were a charity they would be spending their own money or the
money of people who voluntarily donated it to help the sick and poor.
As it is, they are using MY money against my will, yet I don't get
any credit for it.
