DECONSTRUCTION OF CHRISTIANITY CAN SOMEBODY POINT ME TO SOME GOOD BOOKs |
Can somebody point me to some good books about the deconstruction of
christianity? I find it interesting that a lot of people that believe
in the bible claim that most historians get history from the bible. I
was in an argument about this with somebody. I doubt this is really
true of real historians, at least I hope it isn't. But, i'm interested
in some good books that deconstruct christianity in a historical
manner
For example, i've heard some theories that many biblical figures seem
to be adapted from ancient mythologies and formatted to fit other
cutlures. I'm not talking about the common knowledge of christmas, i'm
talking about the fact that the Jesus figure is equatable with ancient
mythological figures. The very foundation of modern christianity may
just be a rethought out and reformed ancient mythology! This has
always interested me, but I would like to do some serious reading on
the subject. Does anybody have some good books that delve into this
area of thought?
Thanks for any help.

Hi there.
If you like reading stuff online you can go to
www.jesusneverexisted.com
There's lots and lots of good stuff there!
Or you can watch the Wholly Babble deconstruct itself:
http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/jim_meritt/bible-contradictions.html
Or you can give up questioning and just go back to a church that has no
doubts about anything in the Babble:
http://www.godhatesfags.com/
Hope that helps!
Katt.

Wow, very informative. Exactly what I was looking for. Bookmarked and
presently being studied. Thanks for the reply.

For an introduction to this subject, HERO WITH A THOUSAND FACES, by James
Campbell, might serve.

"Out of the Desert? - Archaeology and the Exodus/Conquest Narratives"
William H. Steibing Jr.
"Who were the Early Israelites and Where did They Come From?"
William Dever.
"From Nomadism to Monarchy"
Israel Finkelstien and Nadav Na'aman
These books are a good start at the basic
claims that the OT is history.
It isn't.
For a good start at looking at the problems
of the bible, start with Thomas Paine's
"The Age of Reason".
