Muslims Settle 'Prayer in the Workplace' Dispute
By Susan Jones
CNSNews.com Morning Editor
March 18, 2005
(CNSNews.com) - An Islamic civil rights group says it has reached a
settlement with the Dell computer company involving 31 Muslim
employees who wanted to time out from work to pray at sunset.
Coincidentally, a bill reintroduced in Congress on Thursday would
address situations such as the one at Dell.
The workers walked off their assembly-line jobs at Dell's computer
manufacturing plant in Nashville, Tenn., last month when they were
told they had to choose between praying on the job or losing the job.
Devout Muslims pray five times a day.)
In a settlement announced late Thursday, the Council on
American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said the workers will be reinstated,
receive back pay and be granted religious accommodation.
Dell managers will receive additional training on existing religious
accommodation policies and practices, CAIR said in a press release. It
added that other terms of the settlement will not be made public.
The settlement was announced after a meeting between CAIR, Dell, the
Muslim workers, the Nashville Metro Human Relations Commission, and
Spherion Corp., the company that provided the workers to Dell.
"We are pleased with both the terms of the settlement and with the
cooperative attitude of all parties in the negotiations," said CAIR
Executive Director Nihad Awad in a press release.
"We thank everyone from around the world who contacted Dell to express
their support for reasonable religious accommodation in the
workplace."
"This settlement can be used as model by other production facilities
that employ large numbers of Muslim workers," said CAIR Legal Director
Arsalan Iftikhar, who also participated in today's negotiations.
CAIR publishes a booklet called "An Employer's Guide to Islamic
Religious Practices," which it says is designed to prevent incidents
like the one at Dell.
Congress introduces legislation
Coincidentally, a bipartisan "Workplace Religious Freedom Act" was
reintroduced in the House and Senate on Thursday, and backers --
including conservative Christian groups -- predict it will pass this
time.
The bill would require companies hiring 15 or more people to assume
more of a burden than they do now in accommodating employees'
religious practices. It beefs up the test for "undue hardship" when
companies are asked to make "reasonable accommodation."
Critics of the bill, including the American Civil Liberties Union and
homosexual activists, say it is too broad and may uphold some rights
at the expense of others. The Human Rights Campaign issued a statement
warning that some religious rights might erode anti-discrimination
protections.
Some Republicans worry that the bill may be too costly for businesses.

The Irish were charged with exactly the same nefarious

I "neglected to mention" it, yes, because I knew that any
thinking person would recognize that I understood the claims to
be false. For people like you, alas, I see more is required.
So here's another hint, as you seem to be stupider than paste: I
further implied -- by comparing the slander against the Irish to
the slander against the Muslims -- that the current spate of

That's pretty funny. Every thinking person recognized that in
the context your comment was laughable. It amounted to "Some
people claimed that Irish were required to instill a cult
government, therefore they were." Way fuckin' dumb.

Would you like to try to refute some of the observations I made
about the slaves of The Pervert Mohammed's cult? Hint: No. That
naked assertion, which is based on pure ignorance, would be your
"best" effort.
The funny thing here is that you came so close to getting a clue
that you saw the need to snip your earlier amusing nonsense and
the context. Oh, wait...your mom did that for you, right?
Let's make sure that anyone who happens to read this gets his
opportunity to laugh at you. I mentioned the fact that the cult
of Islam requires its drones to try to supplant modern
civilization with cult law, and (pursuant to your dumb remark)
that no such requirement was imposed on the Irish. You squealed
that some some people claimed that the Irish did in fact have
such a requirement and therefore I was wrong. (Oops, wait, that

I'm glad you're too stuporous to perceive the humor in that. We

Another airhead eructs a lame remark.
The Irish who came to North America all made individual decisions
on just about every aspect of their daily lives, and they still do.
Furthermore, they sure as hell weren't instructed to establish an
Irish government here. Mohammedans to this day are not allowed to
make any decisions for themselves, including how to take a dump,
and they are obliged to do anything they can do to help change a
modern civilization into another islamic hellhole.
Quoting one of Islam's slavemasters (imams):
"It is against the spirit of Islam to make independent decisions
as that may be dangerous to the course of Islam."
Your turn...tell me about a first century cult that imposes that
sort of thing on the Irish. <snicker> After you finish that one
(rotfl), tell me about the Irish being admonished to work toward an
Irish state, or whatever the hell you were squawking about.

You know, having lived in Islamic nations, I don't see what you claim
is this unified juggernaut. Even in Saudi Arabia the people are
divided, and the rich jet off to Monaco to drink and break all the
other rules.
The Jihadists are a tiny minority.
Now back in my great-grandfather's day there were Irish who wanted to
use the US to make war on the English. There were Irish who would
have done whatever the Church told them.. but they were also the
minority.

Corporations have caved to Jesse Jackson's shake downs for years. Now, none
of them want to chance it. Dell is in a very competative environment. I
don't agree with it, but I'm not surprised. Few corporations would have the
guts to stand up to something like that nowadays.
