Derren Brown - Messiah |
Was fascinated watching Derren Brown temporarily turn a group of atheists
into full believers within the space of an hour or so, then deconvert them
again.
It left me wondering whether it could be done in reverse - take a group of
theists and completely turn them around in an hour.
It begs the question - is it easier to believe than not believe?
Is that why religion proliferated?
Is it because it requires less effort than critical thinking?
Perhaps it is easier to block discrepancies and doubts from your mind than
examine them.

Ultimately its fear of the unknown that causes people to believe, Hence the
semi whiney "but there *must* be a god" "oh but there must be something
more", "I like to think after I die there's something else".

Whereabouts did you watch the program Steve? It was on in the UK on C4
(I think) months ago.
I liked The Dream Machine, it use to feature on Lorraine DeFelice web
site for ages while she was negotiating with Derren for the rights to
sell it.

see if Derren Brown can make me disbelieve
I will show him the place where I saw the Holy Spirit (The Lord, The
Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son)
all I will prove with Derren Brown is that non-beleivers have no mind
of their own and have no self-confidence apart from that that they put
on their faces
Grow Up, or Belt Up but in the process become both Christ-like and
Child-like
Child-like because the Kingdom of God is for Children
and Christ-like because you may just have an ugly personality and
character

In the great debate about "Re: Derren Brown - Messiah" in alt.atheism,
"footybet.net" <damian@bleachboys.com> catapaulted the following
boulder:
Grow Up, or Belt Up but in the process become both Christ-like and
Child-like
That's the trouble with you believers. You wouldn't recognise cogntive
dissonance if it walked right up to you and broke your big toe with a
six pound lump hammer.
