....A renewal deal between Time Warner Cable and Viacom will include
expansion of cities showing Viacom's LOGO, a network targeting
homosexual viewers. The president of an organization that monitors the
influence of homosexuality in the culture, and the head of another that
observes cultural trends in media, both say it is really just a natural
development of what is already being done on other cable and satellite
channels. Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth says it is significant
-- but not surprising -- that the all-homosexual channel LOGO is
expanding outside of New York City, its only availability location on
cable thus far. "We do have to face facts," the culture analyst
acknowledges. "And that is [that] a lot of the other networks are so
liberal that they're practically de facto homosexual promotion channels
anyway." LaBarbera says liberal pop culture and media see themselves as
the protectors of the homosexual movement and are doing their best to
promote it. Morality in Media president Robert Peters agrees with that
observation. "To my knowledge, LOGO isn't a channel that is paid for
and produced by the gay community," says Peters. "It's a channel, to my
knowledge, that's paid for and produced by the mainstream television
industry." Both men also say the ultimate goal is to break down
societal norms in favor of new definitions of family and morality --
goals they say could change the face of what America may look like in
the decades to come.

Good for them... If you don't want to watch it, don't watch it. But
since we all know you're a self-loathing closet gay, why are you
complaining exactly?
And why do you steal articles on the net?

There are medications now that will help with the paranoia, J Young.

You've got DOZENS of religious channels. What are you complaining
about?

This is, of course, abject nonsense. The vast, vast majority of
mainstream television has, as its central subject, heterosexual
relationships. They are virtually long advertsiements for
heterosexuality. Finally we're seeing a SMATTERING of gay characters,
so of course some anti-gay fear monger calls it "de facto homosexual
promotion ." Some people will never be able to tell the difference
between "promotion" (which is what Christian and other churches do when
they proselytize, not what gay rights organizations do when they fight
for equality) and simple acceptance.
LaBarbera says liberal pop culture and media see themselves as
the protectors of the homosexual movement and are doing their best to

The ultimate goal of the channel, of course, is to make money. The
ultimate goal of the gay rights movement is equality. What will America
look like in the decades to come if this occurs? A lot like it does
now, but without discrimination against gays. If you get off on
discrimination against gays, I guess this would be a disappointment to
you.

Planning on the new computer: Which means wading through the archives,
weeding out the flash-in-the-pans, updating the FAQ's database in
preparation for version 5 (Summer or so), and generally engaging in
digital housekeeping. (I'm up to 1997! Whee!)
Also there's been a slight complication in lifestyle. A plasma TV has
graced the living room, and those high-def broadcasts are something
else. Watched "Pirates of the Caribbean" over the air, at it was
actually better quality than the DVD. Astonishing. Plus, there's just
something ever so slightly subversive about watching the Addams Family
in black and white, with mono sound, on a top-of-the-line, color, Dolby
5.1 system... :-)
I'll probably disappear from time to time. I generally do when things
degrade to "pissing contest" status.

Yeah, there's a lot of that recently. I still have my trusty 48" tube
screen. I don't watch very much television so have had no incentive to
upgrade. I've been cleaning up the hard drives recently myself, most of it
photos and genealogical research. I've been doing that more or less as a
hobby since I retired. It's fun, and occasionally profitable.
