Did Bush Say "Axe" instead of "Ask?" |
In one part of Bush's speech last night, I'm pretty sure he said "axe"
instead of "ask," but I could be mistaken, since I didn't record it
and can't go back and check.
I dunno why I hate hearing people say "axe" instead of "ask" but it
annoys me bigtime. A lot more than hearing Bush say "nuculer" instead
of "nuclear," but along the same line...
Anybody else hate hearing people say "axe" instead of "ask?"
I don't quite know why it annoys me so much, but it does...

Perhaps he was trying to pander to people. Maybe we should axe him why
he said it. ;-)
Or, we could just "axe him."

The only thing that annoys me more than the style of his speeches is the

Totally agree. That smug grin of his when he blurts out complete nonsense.

Yes I find that irritating to. It reminds me of a little wise ***** who
does something bad and then says "Ha! Ha! What are you going to do about
it ?"

In the great debate about "Did Bush Say "Axe" instead of "Ask?"" in
alt.atheism, Elroy Willis <elroywillis@swbell.net> catapaulted the
following boulder:
Anybody else hate hearing people say "axe" instead of "ask?"
No. It's a black thang. Be more tolerant. Maybe he's got some 'roots'
or maybe its a bit of cultural cross-fertilisation with you-know who.

It used to be, but now it's crept over into whitey land. I've noticed
several white celebrities saying it as well. Maybe I should join in
instead of being annoyed?

I got it figured two ways. Either the "Great Uniter" was reaching out
in that big hearted, inclusive, compassionately conservative way that
has endeared him to his adoring public, or, the hand up his hind end
that makes his mouth move slipped and made the wrong word come out.

I think Karl Rove explained it very well:
"As people do better, they start voting like Republicans
....unless they have too much education and vote Democratic,
which proves there can be too much of a good thing."
Bush is a role model for morons. I'm off to Edinburgh this afternoon
to set up camp for a long weekend of G8 banner-waving. If I see him,
I'll be sure to axe him to sort his language out on your behalf.

Like people who say artic instead of arctic, or sikth instead of sixth, or
people who pronounce the letter "h" as haitch, or people who can't use
apostrophes properly, or people who don't know how to read a map, the standard
of education nowadays, lack of respect from the young, the price of fuel, the
shitty summer weather, people who make loud smacking noises when they chew gum
and so on ...

A gum popper who said "axe" instead of "ask" might just send me into a
frenzy, especially if they talked really nasally like the Nanny... Oh

If I was made dictator of the world my first action would be to ban
chewing gum. Why on earth do people think everyone around them wants to
hear them masticate and make stupid crackhead noises?

Not all gum-chewers are gum-poppers and bubble-blowers! I wouldn't
outlaw chewing gum, just the obnoxious chewing and popping of it in
closed areas. If somebody is able to chew gum quietly without
bothering other people, or if they're all alone, then I don't see a
problem...
And the myth about gum being stuck in your intestines for 7 years has
gotta go... That's why people stick gum underneath tables instead of
just swallowing it. I can tell you from personal experience that I've
swallowed thousands of pieces of gum in my life, and it passes
right through like any other food.
