Did Jesus exist? Italian court to decide

ROME (Reuters) - Forget the U.S. debate over intelligent design versus
evolution.
An Italian court is tackling Jesus -- and whether the Roman Catholic
Church may be breaking the law by teaching that he existed 2,000 years
ago.
The case pits against each other two men in their 70s, who are from the
same central Italian town and even went to the same seminary school in
their teenage years.
The defendant, Enrico Righi, went on to become a priest writing for the
parish newspaper. The plaintiff, Luigi Cascioli, became a vocal atheist
who, after years of legal wrangling, is set to get his day in court
later this month.

A minor case of that would like you trying to enact a citizen's arrest on
President Bush.
You lose, as usual.

President Bush may come out of 2006 smelling like a rose.
The economy is still growing at about a 4% rate, still
with very low inflation. The Abramoff scandal probably
won't really hurt him (it's primarily contained in the House,
though we'll see once he sings -- the Prez has already donated
the $6,000 of direct donations to charity).
As ex-coach John Madden once put it, "Winning is a great
deodorant". The ultimate win, of course, is getting rich
-- or at least richer. Might make President Bush's capital
a little richer.
In any event, an Italian Court -- or any other court --
will have to go away unsatisfied. Nobody can disprove
Jesus. (Nobody can prove Jesus was a deity, either.
In a court of secular law the question is largely
irrelevant anyway.)
And of course the Extreme Right won't be happy until
all vestiges of a secular government are erased and a
theocracy is set up and they can do it exactly their way,
including the redaction of objectionable content on the
Web and Usenet. ("objectionable" = "what they don't like",
never mind how everyone else thinks.)
Can't be too careful with al Qaeda running about; it might
lead to dancing. We're at war, after all. :-)

True enough but it can raise more questions about the alleged person written
of in the Gospels.
No one will be able to disprove Doc Savage 300 years from now and Philip
Jose Farmers excellent biography of the man not only will be a huge support
but it even explains many of the minor contradictions found in the books.
