Diocese of San Diego shelves plans for new Catholic high school, will use
money instead toward sexual abuse settlement
A 38-acre piece of land near Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside once set
aside as the site for a new Catholic high school in northern San Diego
County will be sold instead to help pay for the diocese's share of a $198
million settlement with victims of clergy sexual abuse reached in September.
The site had been earmarked for construction of Pax Christi High School, but
plans for the new school have been postponed indefinitely, diocesan
chancellor Rodrigo Valdivia told the North County Times. "It now looks like
it will take much longer than many may have originally hoped," Valdivia said
in an email response to inquiries by a reporter, according to the Dec. 18
Times story.
A diocesan committee decided in 2005 that the Mission San Luis Rey site was
too far west, and planned instead to swap the land for a more suitable
location, Valdivia told the Times. The land swap was part of a larger
diocesan-wide plan that called for the construction of three diocesan high
schools in San Diego County. Proceeds from the sale of two other school
sites, University of San Diego High and Marian High, which the diocese
closed, were to be divided among the three new schools.
The diocese has already sold the Marian and University high school sites,
and has opened two new schools, Cathedral Catholic High and Mater Dei High.
The two new schools are still slated to get their $25 million share of
proceeds from the land sales, but plans for the third school, Pax Christi,
remain uncertain. "Each of the three schools was to receive $25 million from
the sale of the properties to offset the entire cost of land purchase,
construction and furnishings," Valdivia told the newspaper. "Having to make
the settlement payments does not allow us to do that now."
Instead, the estimated $90 million the diocese will receive from the land
sales will be divided this way: $25 million each to the two recently opened
schools, $40 million toward the sexual abuse settlement, nothing for Pax
Christi high.
Valdivia told the Times that the diocese still wants to place a school some
day in northern San Diego County, but that "addressing the settlement
payments is, however, a more pressing matter."
The diocese is slated to make its first payout toward the settlements in
January 2008, and its second and final payment in September 2008. The
Diocese of San Diego's share of the $198 million settlement is about $153
million, covering 111 cases.

Issues such as these are why I have used the term treason so many times.
Fraud, extortion, assaults, threats of intimidation by militaristic types,
etc.
Is the CRIMINAL justice system too afraid to inform the people of the names
and addresses of these extortionists who threaten them?
Can we trust our government to serve the people if they are so quick to bow
to things other than the Constitution?
I can understand that people do things sometimes when they fear a threat
made by such criminals against themselves and/or their family members;
however, with freedom of the press and whistle blower laws and the internet
the government could somehow allay themselves of these criminal felons who
are assaulting and stealing and extorting things and funds from those who
owe these criminals nothing.

Do you think the government would call the national guard to protect the
assets of these institutions against the extortionists?

Education is very important. Sadly, we are paying in so many ways due
to not dealing with the abuse issue well enough. Education is
imprtant, and we will just have to find another way to deal with the
school. If the damned people that felt themselves above prosecution
(we put them there) and responsibility had of just followed their own
vows of Chastity we would not have these problems today. It exists
in other faiths as well and is peeping out from under the bushes with
green glowing eyes as we speak. (visualisation :) Every faith has
these problems, ..a human issue. At least we are dealing with it in
an open fashion and not hiding it anymore.

Yes indeed. If the church had done the right thing, the >>moral<<

have happened.
Get it? probably not.

I said she had "good genes", not specifically genes from an aunt or
uncle. I assumed (incorrectly) that she was a direct relative of
Robibnikoff, meaning that she came from a good gene pool. Give it a
rest.
so she will most likely overcome whatever deficiencies she
acquired from attending the catholic school. I hope she is, or
becomes, a pro-choice advocate too. :o))
I doubt it.

Because of the pedopriests, the catholic church must now STEAL this
money that was given to the rcc to pay for the sins of their priests.
And the sheep will pay and pay and pay...
Oh and the kids? They can go to public schools and get a good
education.
And without the cult indoctrination. See, there's a bright side to
everything.

Because the priests previously entrusted with the "decent education"
of their charges decided instead to get their jollies at the expense
of children.

Well if the Catholic church had not covered up the child sexual abuse they
wouldn't be liable for all these monetary damages.

Since the priest-abused children were all under the legal age of
consent, the crime is entirely that of the priests.

Error in logic.
If the children were under the age of consent then the children who
consented are who committed the infraction.
Saying a child is under the age of consent means that the children are
disallowed from participating in such acts.
The adults attained the age of consent already.
What you gonna do now that children are doing things before they attain the
age of consent?

APA ***** that likes to tell consenting sex freak underage persons that

I think what he's angry about is that, in the state of South Carolina,
"pleading guilty or nolo contendre to" and "being convicted of" are
synonymous.
