Discrepencies and contradictions about the apostles of Jesus. |
Just an amusing little report on the discrepencies and
contradictions of the gospels and acts on the names and
manner in which Jesus obtained his apostles.
One would think, if these were apostles who wrote these
things, they would remember the names of their comrades
who they spent at least a year in intimate daily contact with.
One more straw on the camel's back
***********************************************
The Apostles according to the bible
and contradictions to be found in the
four gospels.
Mark. Who were the apostles and how
did Jesus find them?
Mark 1:16
At the sea of Galilee.
Jesus find fishermen Simon and Andrew.
A little distance further, fishermen James
and John, sons of Zebedee.
2:14.
He picks up Levi, son of Alpheus,
a tax collector, "sitting at the reciept
of custom".
Mark 3.
Simon is surnamed Peter,
James and John surnamed Boanerges, sons
of thunder.
Levi. son of Alpheus mysteriously is spoken
of as James, son of Alpheus in 3:18.
1. Peter (Simon Peter)
2. Andrew Boanerges
3. James Boanurges
4. John
5. James, son of Alpheus. (Levi)
Added in 3:13-19
6. Phillip
7. Bartholomew
8. Matthew
9. Thomas
10. Thaddeus
11. Simon the Canaanite
12. Judas Iscariot
Note! No Mark!
Matthew
4:5
He finds "Simon called Peter", his brother
Andrew, fishermen
He finds James and John Zebedee. Fishermen.
Matthew 9:9
He finds Matthew at a "Custom house" collecting
customs. Not Levi or James, son of Alpheus
as per Mark 2:14.
Matthew 10.
Mysteriously, all of a sudden Jesus has 12 apostles.
1. Simon Peter.
2. Andrew
3. James Zebedee
4. John Zebedee
5. Phillip
6. Bartholomew
7. Matthew the Publican
8. James, son of Alpheus
9. Lebaeus surnamed Thaddeus
10. Simon the Canaanite.
11. Judas Iscariot
And here the list ends at eleven
We are missing the 12th and James son
of Alphaeus and Matthew are obviously
contradictory between Mark and Matthew.
Acts 1:13.
Anoter list of apostles.
1. Peter
2. Andrew.
3. John
4. James
5. Phillip
6. Bartholomew
7. Thomas
8. Matthew
9. James son of Alpheus
10 Simon Zelotes. Simon the Canaanite?
11 Judas, Brother of James
Judas is by this time gone.
What happened to Labaeus Thaddeus?
Where did Judas brother of James come from?
Luke
Luke 5.
Jesus finds Simon Peter.
there is also John and James Zebedee.
Partners with Simon.
No mention of Simon Peter's brother.
1:27. he find Levi, a publican
6:14
Jesus has his twelve apostles
1. Simon Peter
2. James Zebedee
3. John Zebedee
4. Levi the Publican
5. Andrew, brother of Peter.
6. Phillip
7. Bartholomew
8. Matthew
9. Thomas
10. James son of Alphaeus
11. Simon Zelotes
12 Judas Iscariot.
Acts is supposedly written by the same
person who wrote Luke. Why then the
difference between Luke and Acts 1 on
this issue?
John
John 1:39-51.
Rather than finding his first apostles on a beach
in Galilee, he finds tham when he is baptised
by John. One of John the Baptists disciples
goes with Jesus. Andrew, and he takes Jesus
to his brother Simon.
Simon, son of Jona, who Jesus surnames Peter.
His brother Andrew becomes the second apostle
Next day Jesus finds Phillip of Bethsaida.
Also the city of Andrew and Simon.
Phillip gets a friend, Nathaniel.
A disciple according to John?
At any rate this is radicaly different from
Mark and Matthew who find James and John,
Simon Peter and Andrew at the sea of Galilee.
John the baptist is in Judea, far from Galilee,
and John 1:43, after getting Andrew and Simon
Peter, the next day Jesus and they leave for
Galilee.
John 6:67
Jesus has 12 unnamed apostles
Judas Iscariot is now introduced.
12:4 "Judas Iscariot, Simon's son.."
14:5 Thomas is mentioned.
1. Simon Peter
2. Andrew
3. Phillip
4. Judas Iscariot, son of Simon
5. Thomas
John 20:24 Thomas called Didymous
No more apostles are named, John does
not seem even seem to known the names
of any more. He writes of them like a school boy
doing a book report when he has not read the book.
They are mentioned only in most general terms.
Its obvious that none of these were really
eyewitness reports, the contradictions show
that. One may argue an apostle may not remember
if it was two or three women at the tomb, but
a man does not forget his comrades he is intimate
contact with over the year they were with Jesus
on a daily basis.

Bush? Well they don't give medals
for going AWOL, missing your medical and
getting grounded or falling off of a bar stool.
Kerry - a hero, Bush - a zero
