Dixie courthouse unveils the Ten Commandments

CROSS CITY - Dozens of county residents took a few extra minutes on the way
home from church Sunday or on the way to work Monday morning to drive past
the Dixie County courthouse to see for themselves if what they had heard
was true.
It was.
A six-ton block of granite bearing the Ten Commandments had been installed
atop the courthouse steps. Inscribed at the base was the admonition to
"Love God and keep his commandments."
"There are no negatives there to live by," said Skipper Jones, former owner
and publisher of the county's weekly newspaper. Jones served as spokesman
Monday for Joe Anderson Jr., one of the leaders of the effort to have the
monument constructed and situated at no cost to the county.
"Mr. Anderson was involved with others and took a very active role in
seeing this was accomplished because he feels this is something the country
needs to get back to," Jones said.
The concept of a Ten Commandments monument was endorsed by county
commissioners, according to the minutes of the Jan. 19 regular board
meeting.
Former Commissioner John Driggers broached the subject on behalf of an
unnamed county resident, asking whether the board was "bold enough" to
allow the monument to be placed at the courthouse. After then-county
attorney Joey Lander told the board he would defend any lawsuits stemming
from the decision for free, commissioners voted in favor of allowing the
project to proceed.
Although Lander has resigned as county attorney, he told The Sun on Monday
afternoon that he would uphold his offer.
"I will gladly represent them for free but I wouldn't want to challenge
someone to file a lawsuit," Lander said. "If the commissioners were willing
to make the bold statement, I am willing to do my part to represent the
county in their bid to keep them (the commandments) there."

It is probably perfectly constitutional for the Christians to emplace
a Ten Commandments monument on public property, provided that it would
also be allowed for Humanists, Wiccans, and all other philosophical
and religious groups to set up on public property some monuments
having manifestos of their beliefs. This is the opinion of the ACLU.
The ACLU got involved in a case in a community near me where the
Christians wanted to set up a nativity creche on the court house
grounds and a local atheist organization wanted to set up next to the
nativity scene a huge wooden sign having quotations from famous
Americans supporting the concept of separation of Church and State.
The ACLU said that they would sue the town if the town would not allow
the Christians AND the atheists or any other philosophical or religious
group to set up a display on the court house grounds, OR disallow
everyone, including the Christians, from doing that. In this case the
Town Council agreed to accede to the demands of the ACLU. The Town
Council decided to allow both the Christians and the atheists to erect
their displays on the court house lawn. The ACLU was OK with the
decision made by the Town Council and they did not sue the town. The
name of the town is Front Royal, VA. The name of the town's most
notable and outspoken atheist is COL Gordon, USAF, retired. He is a
WWII pilot. I don't know if he is still living. His wife is a very
fine Christian lady and she puts up with her husband's pro-atheist
advocacy. He puts up with his wife's Christianity. I used to be
acquainted with the couple. They are very nice folks.

That is not the belief of the ACLU. The ACLU holds that other beliefs can do

The Christians are the REASON America is so fucked up. The Extremist
Christians are anti-drug, anti-alcohol, anti-gun, anti-violance, anti-sex,
anti-nudity, anti-smoking, anti-everything. They believe WE as in all
Americans should suffer as Christs had.

The Christians are the REASON America is so fucked up. The Extremist
Christians are anti-drug, anti-alcohol, anti-gun, anti-violance,
anti-sex, anti-nudity, anti-smoking, anti-everything. They believe WE
as in all Americans should suffer as Christs had.

The truth is that the ten commandments in the court house have nothing to do

The so-called "Extremist Christians" are not anti-gun, and for reason
of their pro-gun stance the conservative and pro-gun candidates
endorsed by the so called "Religious Right" get millions of votes from
NRA members and their supporters and fellow sportsmen. I do not know

Second Amendsment rights, but among them there are many noteworthy
exceptions who support those rights. If the anti-Second Amendment
Democrats want to get more votes they would do quite well to renounce
their anti-gun position.
Al Gore lost the 2000 election because of his anti-gun position. Even
Bill Clinton admits that Al Gore lost for that reason. Al Gore needed
only 3 electoral votes to win the election. He failed to carry West
Virginia, which traditionally had always voted Democratic. West
Virginia has three electoral votes. West Virginians are good ole boys
and pistol-packin mommas, and they don't put up with anti-gunners. I
know how West Virginians are because West Virginia is just over the
ridge a few miles to my west. If you don't like President Bush you can
blame Al Gore's extremist anti-gun position and his most apparent
ignorance of how West Virginians are for the reason why Al Gore was not
elected.

Now Protestant Christians all over Florida finally have a set of Ten
Commandments that actually mean something to them, seeing as that it
finally has approval from what they truly worship...big-government.
Obviously to them, the Ten Commandments have no meaning whatsoever
unless big-government sponsors and supports them.
Truly, what we have seen in Cross County, Florida is not devotion to
God, which Jesus commanded be done in private, but devotion to
big-government...just like the ideological similar
Stalinist-communists. It is very curious that by praising the Ten
Commandments by using them in public that they are violating several of
them to do so. But they won't care. Big-government is their true god.
As a Goldwater-conservative, I find this an attack on conservatism and
a ruthless attempt to expand government power, usurping the religious
independence of churches. It is not something a free government needs
to be doing.

There is no position on which people are so immovable as their
religious beliefs. There is no more powerful ally one can claim in a
debate than Jesus Christ, or God, or Allah, or whatever one calls this
supreme being. But like any powerful weapon, the use of God's name on
one's behalf should be used sparingly. The religious factions that are
growing throughout our land are not using their religious clout with
wisdom. They are trying to force government leaders into following
their position 100 percent. If you disagree with these religious groups
on a particular moral issue, they complain, they threaten you with a
loss of money or votes or both. I'm frankly sick and tired of the
political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that if
I want to be a moral person, I must believe in 'A,' 'B,' 'C,' and 'D.'
Just who do they think they are? And from where do they presume to
claim the right to dictate their moral beliefs to me? And I am even
more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every
religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my
vote on every roll call in the Senate. I am warning them today: I will
fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral

finally has approval from what they truly worship...big-government.

"However, on religious issues there can be little or no compromise.
I am warning them today: I will
fight them every step of the way if they try to dictate their moral
convictions to all Americans in the name of 'conservatism.'" - Senator
Barry Goldwater (R-AZ), 16 September 1981

Goldwater conservative? I'm surprised there are any of you left. Now,
conservatism means, "spend, borrow and blame the next administration for the
mess."

Pat Buchanan is one of them.

Please. Don't insult our integrity. Buchanan is no
Goldwater-conservative. He's just another anti-American, big-government
worshiping, Christian-supremacist, Taliban-wannabee. He worked for the
big-government FBI back in the '60s. He claims to be a conservative but
has actively encouraged using the power of the state to control and
regulate his political enemies, just like his ideological predecessor
Dzhugashvili . He's just another commie in a choir robe, like his
buddies Falwell and Robertson.
