Object: Does God Know How to Cook?
The reason I'm asking is because I've never understood why God would have
the need to have utterly defenseless 'virgin' lambs slaughtered and then
offered up to himself as 'sacrifice'. Didn't he ever learn to cook for
himself?

Yeah, but he has no stove. He fixes his meals in Hell's Kitchen.

Something nobody has been able to tell me - why is that part of
Manhattan called Hell's Kitchen?

Hadn't heard any of those - but it explains why everybody has given
different explanations.
I was born and raised in London, and never heard of a Hell's Kitchen
there so I doubt that explanation - of it being named after it.

Agnus Dei qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis. It becomes even stranger
when his taste for furry little lambkins becomes stale and he wants more
exotic meat.

Asking such question is what turned me away from being a Catholic for
most of my life. When I did not ask such questions things were fine.
But once I applied rationality and thought to it...it all fell apart.

Looking back, it *does* make one scratch one's head and think, 'Where in the
heck was *my* brain?' It's downright silly looking at the supposed need of a
deity to have slaughtered animals offered up to him as 'sacrifice'. Or to
declare through his purported spokesperson on earth -- meaning here, the
'Pope' -- that it's a 'sin' to eat meat on Friday's for a time. What an
absolute joke.

True 'dat - Took the family to a great asian market on Saturday. More
bizarre things than you can shake a stick at (whole dried squid anyone? Or
perhaps you'd prefer the chicken feet with some pork uterus on the side?).
Their fish is so fresh that they kill it right in front of you.
Unfortunately they did this right in front of the witchling - She got to see
this guy slaming a fish onto the floor. Oh dear - No seafood for her :)

Chicken feet make the best chicken stock. I'll pass on the womb,
though.

I got to see not only that but chickens giving their all for us when I

I saw chickens getting beheaded when I was ten. I was traumatized for a
loooooong time after that (though I did still eat chicken). I gave up
eating lamb after having a pet one for a couple of years. I've always
tossed around the idea of being a vegetarian. Gave up red meat in October.
Gave up meat entirely about a week before Thanksgiving. Don't miss it in
the least :)

Chicken, turkey and fish for me for the last 10 years. Cholesterol.

I cannot conceive of a god who rewards and punishes his creatures
or has a will of the kind that we experience in ourselves. Neither
can I nor would I want to conceive of an individual that survives
its physical death; let feeble souls, from fear or absurd egotism,
cherish such thoughts. I am satisfied with the mystery of the eter-
nity of life and a glimpse of the marvelous structure of the exist-
ing world, together with the devoted striving to comprehend a
portion, be it ever so tiny, of the Reason that manifests itself in
nature.

Al,
Did you last 10 years also lower your Triglycerides as well as
Cholesterol? Mine started of around 612, and last time were like 468
with medication. I also have a Cholesterol problem. My total number is
high, but not all that high. But my bad cholesterol has been so high
that the good was unreadable. So I suppose this has been a problem for
me too. But its been like this sense I first had it looked at in my
early 20's. Its always been like this. Fat as well as fatter!

You're heading for diabetes if you aren't there already. Start losing
weight. It's rough at first, but it gets easier after a month or so.

Robyn,
I want to do that too, give up meat. But I seem to have an addiction.
Hell, I am 44, and had 3 stents put in last year. Granted I have other
things going on that might have had a hand in that, but still, its
something that I wish were not.
