Don't Call Your Child Ariel or Omri - Official |
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4401116.stm
reveals that "A group of Israeli rabbis has issued a list of names they
say Jewish parents should not call their children for fear of bringing
bad luck. The list includes the names Ariel and Omri - which happen to
belong to the Israeli prime minister and his son.
Calling Ariel, the rabbis say, could mistakenly invoke the wrath of a
namesake angel, while Omri was the name of an evil biblical king."
Reality check, aisle nine!
Hello?!
Bring bad luck? Okay, so Omri was an evil Israeli king (but only as
determined in hindsight by the moronic Bible writers squinting through
the ill-focused religious lens), but Ariel (often confuted with Uriel,
"Fire of God") was the name of one of the seven archangels (another was
Satan himself!). The name means, "Lion of God", which also referred to
jerusalem, so this name is used several times in the Bible as a stand
in for that city.
Ariel was purportedly in charge of sacred wisdom and is keeper of the
Earth (and you thought that was either Jesus's job or Satan's, didn't
you?), so why anyone would think alling on Ariel would be a bad thing
is yet another of those mysterious ways....

Meanwhile, more and more muslims are naming their boys "Osama"....

It's probably for the same reasons Germans stopped naming boys "Adolf"
and Italians stopped naming boys "Benito" after WWII.
