"I basically decided long ago that arguing with people who wanted to
believe in creationism was quite a wasted effort," he said. "If you're
dealing with somebody who really doesn't need evidence to hold a
position, then offering evidence for your position doesn't really
impress them. But I think it's very tragic that there's still such an
effort to discredit the idea of evolution.
"It's interesting, though, that even people like your president have
had to concede that the avian flu is capable of mutating -- he doesn't
like the word evolution -- into a strain that could kill us. Well,
that's absolutely true, but the mutation he's talking about is
evolution. So, people are going to have to come to terms with this."
