I borrowed the CD from the library. Very amusing stuff. Our
Purity Of Essence is being sapped by the Commie water flouridation
project that sneaks up on us, even to the point of attacking our
children's precious bodily fluids through milk.

I first saw that along with a film that showed how people died who were on
the edge of a "nuk-ler" blast.
O2 sucked out of the air and CO would kill a lot initially, then there's the
radiation poisoning.
Allegedly we were a test to see how people would react and if it should get
wider distribution.
This was in Chico, California one of the three safest places in the world
according to a study published about that time. The study was done before
the missile site went in - and before it blew up.

One of the funniest things about the movie isn't even in the film.
George C. Scott said he never found his performance funny, that he
was playing it straight.

I didn't know that. In retrospect, it seems obvious. When the
Russian Ambassador for Soviet leader Kissoff -- good name -- was
going to be allowed in, Scott started collecting his secret books
and then bent forward, waved his right arm at the wall, and told
the American President -- as if he were a 6 year old child who
is dim witted and slow -- "He'll get a look at the big board." }:-}
I didn't know Darth Vader was in the movie.
When Pickens gets the doors open and he wraps his legs around the
nose of the bomb, as soon as the bomb unloads he's whooping it up
-- he didn't pause an instant to worry about his own impending
death. That was _so_ like the entire performance after getting
the bombing order: gung ho, unthinking, everything focused on bombing
the ***** out of the Russians.

that was unintentionally funny.

The scene where he stumbles and bobs quickly back up as if nothing

Scott went on with the scene anyway because nobody yelled 'Cut'.

Hi, there!
I used that at a management policy meeting in my company. Two
vice-presidents got into a screaming match over some minor financial
issue and I yelled out, "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is
the
War Room." It stopped it and the older guys got a good laugh.

Is it really a "parody" if it's what they actually believed? :-?
Anywho, another fine one I heard while growing up - with people who
honestly believed this stuff - was that Rubik's cube was actually
intended to undermind the United States populace by taking their focus
of Gawd (funny how few of them ever said the same about football, a
far more popular "distraction from Gawd(TM)" than Rubik's cube could
ever have been). On top of that, Rubik's cube "clones" (such as
"Whip-it", the little baseball one, the pyramid one and the snake)
were equally guilty of trying to quash the American way of life.
If they weren't so fucking dangerous, they might actually be kinda'
_cute_ in their own strange little way...

In my day (I can say that now. As of today, I'm officially a senior

but I just looked at the pictures - that argued for the sexual content of
these comics.
They had reproductions of the pictures pointing out their explicit sexual
nature. Maybe I was to young but I never saw anything but dark areas.

The John Birch society -- which was, and is, a clutch of raving
rightist lunatics (even the everyday right is saner than the Birchies)
-- was vehemently opposed to water fluridation as a Communist plot.
They also opined that many comics contained subtle Communist-pervert
messages. They particularly disliked Batman and questioned the
healthfulness of the relationship between the Batman and his protege,
Robin. The Birchers once questioned the patriotism of anyone who
thought the Star Spangled Banner was difficult to sing. I don't know
what they've done lately. I don't care, either.

Batman and Robin?! What about their faithful manservant Alfred?
If that guy wasn't gay, neither is Tom Cruise.
Now the Skipper and Gilligan... Obvious flamers.

Anyone who could resist Julie Newmar when she wore that

malfunctioning manhood problems.

My "little buddy." The Skipper was also into S&M, using his hat as

Did you know the actor who played Alfred in the 1960s TV series was
Neville Chamberlain's cousin?

The John Birch society -- which was, and is, a clutch of raving
rightist lunatics (even the everyday right is saner than the Birchies)
-- was vehemently opposed to water fluridation as a Communist plot.
They also opined that many comics contained subtle Communist-pervert
messages. They particularly disliked Batman and questioned the
healthfulness of the relationship between the Batman and his protege,
Robin. The Birchers once questioned the patriotism of anyone who
thought the Star Spangled Banner was difficult to sing. I don't know
what they've done lately. I don't care, either.

Which is a parody of ultra-right-wing beliefs of that period

We still have a lot of right-wing conspiracy kooks out there believing

Add one more E and you get POEE, which stands for the Paratheo-anametamystikhood of

can correctly translate "paratheo-anametamystic" ;-b

consist in believing, or in disbelieving; it consists

And the movie is still relevant today. Wherein a cowboy (Slim Pickens as
Major Kong), piloting a "Weapon Of Mass Destruction", ensures that the
payload is delivered, despite every effort to stop him. It sounds SOOOO
familiar somehow.....

I love the "When Jonny Comes Marching Home Again" music that picks
up every time Pickens' B-52 is on. He's reading Playboy Magazine
after the movie starts with a mid air refueling... great stuff.
