Object: Dr.Dino (Kent Hovind)
I happened on TBN TV late at night recently and was rewarded by Dr
Dino holding forth on a religious show devoted to debunking evolution.
He wasn't arguing or debating; just getting out the word as a
preacher.
My main surprise was that TBN would waste the time actively to
challenge evolution with charts and a high profile YEC creationist.
Here are some of the points he made:
The Bible is inerrant.
God created everything.
He said that he was surprised that anyone could believe in evolution.
Little children are being taught evolution in public schools.
Evolution is a religion.
Dinosaurs are roaming the earth today. Pterodactyls are flying every
day.
There are medieval coins that show dragons (dinosaurs) being killed by
people. No need for tracks of people and dinosaurs--they exist
together today.
He is proud of the work that he is doing in fighting evolution.
He is proud of his debating record. Dr. Dino claimed that the
professor in Texas, who refused to pass or give good grades to
creationists, refused $900 to debate him.
He pointed out that no one has successfully accepted his $250,000
challenge to prove that evolution is correct.
He showed pictures in biology books of vestigial organs that
scientists incorrectly interpret.
It was pure Hovind delivered matter-of-factly. His host was another
minister whose passion seemed to be finding creationist material on
trips of discovery.
To the credit of the station, the material was religious and no worse
than regular TBN fare.

Why the surprise? They do feature a program by Carl Baugh every
week, after all.

No duh. I grilled some dinosaur last Sunday. It tasted like
chicken. For a very, very good reason.

I liked that comment so much that I used a very similar comment in a
slightly different but similar context in my post about corn smut
eating.

It hasn't been more than a year since I was last in the Cloisters, the
Metropolitan Museum's adjunct devoted to medieval art. There I saw the
most spectacular tapestries, hundreds of years old, depicting a unicorn
hunt. Guess we gotta believe in those, also. I have also seen some
interesting creatures besides those in medieval manuscripts- griffins,
hippogrifs, and kraken to name a few.
On the flip side, I wonder that ole Kent brings this up. I bet the
people he's referring to go by the names of Michael and George, and when
Dr. Dino passes on, given how he's badmouthed the pope, they're gonna be
pissed.

I wonder what Dr Dino would make of this:

I call 'em chickens. In fact, I'm thinking of having some grilled
dinosaur w/orange-garlic marinade tonight.
