Object: Drugs, get me some drugs.
Don't know if any one saw it.
Last week I answered a quote of Plato in a sig.

Get back to me on this in a week or so. Getting samples
of my thyroid sent to the lab tomorrow, and kidneys Friday.

I'll be dissapointed if the results affect my view of
religion.

I know some people in this group have faced medical
difficulty without petitioning god to revise his perfect
plan for their benefit.
\end old post
I'm glad they scheduled the thyroid for the day before
the kidney. The thyroid biopsy was nothing, although
I did tell the doctor I had a little anxiety about the
procedure. Since it was nothing I was about as calm as
possible before the kidney biopsy. That was not nothing.
To borrow a few words my daughter said minutes after
my grandson was born, 'I'm never doing that again".
Well she did, and I suppose if the doctor says so I will.
Hence, the title of this message. If you're in situation
like this "Walk into the shrink where ever you are.."
sorry got off track, if the doctor asks you to rate the
pain from 1 to 10 don't let your ego make you say the
wrong thing, The answer is not 8 or 9 or 9.998, its 10+.
The doctor said the pain was similar to a kidney stone,
any one getting a kidney stone in the next 1000 years has
my deepist sympathy.
Back to the subject. I was given several doses of morphine
for the pain, I can not say that it did any good. Maybe
thats just the power of suggestion, 5 mg sounds like an
awful small dose.
Friday the doctor said she'd call with results monday or
tuesday, her nurse called today to schedule an appointment
for monday, I asked for enough informatiom so I could study
for some intelligent questions when I see the doctor.
I really am a fairly calm person, really. I am getting a
bit anxious again
Any way, still no pleading, except to the doctor for relief
from the pain. Stay tuned.

I'm sorry to hear that you are in so much pain, Charles. I hope that
the doctor will give you something to help lessen the pain. I thought
that I'd hit the epitome of pain when I had a cortizone shot directly
into my wrist and right into the nerve, but this sounds worse.
Do you have any pain killers from the last time you had dental
surgery? I was lucky enough to have some still in my medicine
chest. It was the only way I made it through that night.

I should have mentioned the pain was mostly gone late Friday
night, Saturday morning was no worse than sore, by Monday
tender.

The only pain killer I've had before was Tylenol 3. If I
had any of those left they'd be atleast 10 years old.
Got results on the thyroid biopsy today, just a benign cyst,
just have to keep any eye on it.
Sure am glad they did the thyroid first, if they'd done
the other first and then said they wanted to do the
thyroid, " You want to stick a needle in my Neck, are
you crazy."
Except for a little trouble sleeping, I'm one of those
people that spawls all over the bed, rolling from one
uncomfortable position to another, I'm pretty near back
to normal. OK I couldn't resist, Rand McNally says I'm
about 140 miles from Normal.

Opiates! Lots of opiates!! When I had my wisdom teeth out, the surgeon
called _me_ in the afternoon to ask whether I needed more. That surgeon
is a keeper!
Seriously, aspirin and tylenol -- placebos or what? I just don't notice
an analgesic effect, so why not get something that actually works for
short-term conditions?

I guess I could have mentioned the pain was pretty near gone
by Friday night. Or maybe I did, since I didn't reread what
I wrote. Tuesday morning I felt I had a fever so I went down
to health services to get my temperture. The company nurse
then called the doctors nurse to tell her about it. The
nurse called back later, said every things fine, and in case
of pain take some Tylenol. Right, morphine no effect, take
Tylenol.
Well, I'm as close to normal as usual. Except a little
trouble sleeping.
Now if only it where Monday, so I can get the results.

At about 3:30 they said I could have some more at 4, by 3:45

Just have to hear what the doctor has to say Monday. I did

I can speak from personal experience that a kidney stone is OUTRAGEOUSLY
painful. Made childbirth feel like a walk in the park, seriously.

As a guy I've got to express some doubts about that, women
have that small onpening that a guy can put one of his small
parts in. Then if he moves move it around right both get some
pleasure, nine months later you may have to pull a person
through that, to my mind it doesn't leave much margin for
worse.
I saw the doctor today about the biopsy result, start some
medication tomorrow (ACE inhibitor) to control the protein
leakage. In about 2 months do another 24 urine test to see
how this works.
Still no thoughts of turning to God.

<chuckle> Well, while I do see you point, but for me comparing the pain I
endured during both experiences, the kidney stone wins hands down. Not to
mention that it took over 5 hours to move from my kidney to my bladder, while
the kid took only 3 1/2 hours to greet the world ;)

At least babies aren't jagged.
Obviously, I can't know whether the pain of a kidney stone is worse.
All I do know is that when I had one, the nurse told me that they
were, in fact, worse than childbirth. I don't know how she, herself,
came to that conclusion but, given that she was the person who had the
morphine, I was inclined to take her word for it.

The pain I experienced was a blood-clot (after a kidney biopsy)
acting like a kidney stone, the doctor made the comparison. A
couple of snips ago I said I couldn't tell that morphine gave any
relief, maybe my pain meter was so far over scale that the
morphine did not get it back in range.

Holy CRAP! You have my sympathy. I actually didn't get any drugs until AFTER
the stone had made it's way into the bladder, which didn't make any sense, but
what the heck. Not that this will help you now, but believe it or not, I found
the Lamaze breathing technique to be rather effective.

Mmmm... morphine.

I definitely got benefit from the morphine. A friend who was with me
tells me that she asked me if I still felt any pain. According to
her, I thought about it for awhile and then replied, "Somewhere."
I have heard that different people have different reactions to
morphine and that, for some, it doesn't do much good. Perhaps you are
simply one of those who don't recieve any benefit from it.
